MADISON, Wisc. -- Sen. Scott Fitzgerald, the GOP's leader in the upper house, said today that access to parts of the Capitol will be closed off to the public starting 6 p.m.
A little background. The occupation of the capitol is, in some ways, a fluke. Citizens are allowed to stay overnight in the Capitol if there is a hearing going on and people are giving testimony. Democrats have had a quasi-official hearing going since the start of this impasse, which has allowed hundreds of people to sleep in the Capitol every night. But since the start of this week, the Assembly and Senate wings of the Capitol have been closed off by police tape, restricting movement. At his presser today and in a short scrum afterward, Fitzgerald explained that the Senate would start limiting access to those areas after 6 p.m. Saturday, restricting the sleepover.

Surely there’s some statute that allows lawmakers to defend the state Capitol against mob action. Fire codes? Loitering? Vagrancy? Mopery with intent to gawk?
I hope the protesters cleaned up after themselves. (sarc)
Looking the pictures, I wondered about fire codes, too. It’s hard to believe that it’s ok for that many people to be in the the building at once.
But I figured they were afraid to move people out forcibly because of how it would look on TV.
I just hope, once they do get the building cleared, there are lots of pictures of the filth left behind. I bet it’s a mess in there.
Things like firecodes ~ even state firecodes ~ simply do not apply.
I don’t believe this has anything to do with the other thread. The Wisconsin GOP offices are not in the Capitol.
“Democrats have had a quasi-official hearing going since the start of this impasse, which has allowed hundreds of people to sleep in the Capitol every night”
How does this work? Are they spectrally projecting their essences across state lines?
For Commies.
Check with your local state constitution.
It’s the State Assembly which has been holding hearings. It’s the State Senate who are the “fleebaggers” holding out in Illinois.
You'd be killing two birds with one stone.......or...... eliminating two sets of pests with one action. :)
Perhaps it will require for a few GOP offices to be trashed first before the GOP takes action.
Good point M, legislatures tend to be their own legal jurisdictions in many areas operating under their own set of rules. I agree with it too, it’s part of keeping the three branches separate and equal.

How does this work? Ya got me. The more I read about the games our legislators play with their obscure rules, the more it sickens me.
They are nearby in the downtown area.
“My side” is not winning. They are becoming bozos in an age when image is everything.
What would sicken me is if the Mayor of Madison thought it was OK for him to go in there with his cops and beat up the members of the legislature.
