My sister who works for Head Start says next Friday is it in CA. They had a meeting today saying they are all gone. She was told it is all closing at least in this state and maybe across the nation at least in part.
Sure, budget issues is the way it goes, but how long before we get more bonds and BS (FOR THE CHILDREN)?
The Los Angeles times in the source link is there to show you they already blamed Republicans even though in this state the Democrats run the show.

Head Start is something I haven’t thought of in years. I used to be involved in the weekly 4 hour live uplink that went nationwide. Talk about dull air.
My mother was one of the earliest employees of head start and worked for them for nearly 20 years. It became all about the grant money.
Just one more federal money hole and social programing nursery.
Sittin’ here chuckling at that great tagline.
Head Start is supposed to provide great academic support for young disadvantaged students. It doesn’t. The advantages are very short term and the advantages disappear in a couple of years. This is a true liberal feel good program. And it is as effective as most true liberal feel good programs.
And of course White parents pay for the vast majority of the program.
The Welfare state is failing, and with it much of "minority achievement" - a fantasy made up of special programs, welfare, affirmative action and government jobs will dispear with it. Much of the black middle class will disapear with FedGov, thought the NFL and NBA guys will still be making the big bucks.
It's gonna be an interesting decade.
She may know the name Carolyn Dorell, she was the presenter of nationwide Head Start video uplinks that went on for years.

When my mother finally walked away she was transportation director for this region. It was the unionista bus drivers that finally drove her out. Bunch of vicious drunken animals demanding more money than was in the budget.
Minorities are raised believing that makeing it in the middle class is a government job of ANY sort. They are taught that these are the only jobs they cannot be fired from no matter how bad the economy or how piss poor their performance.
I walk into a Federal building in a 95% white area and 50% plus of the employees are minorities. Some places it’s more like 80%.
Where immigrants (any immigrants) come from, government jobs are about the only ones that aren’t “black market,” and there for subject to extortion, clearance, or jail time.
Sort of like the US is getting to be. Want to braid your friends’ hair for a little snack money? Don’t try it!

I assure you politics is the reason Head Start was chosen for closure first.
The media wants red meat and the Dems serve it up. Angry mothers without government-supplied baby-sitters will be sicced on Republicans.
“Women and minorities hardest hit” the first phrase taught in J-school.
I think that it was really meant for those children who needed early intervention but then it just became a free babysitting service.
Now they have to have other government funded programs for special needs children.
They serve the shortest stint possible in the military to collect military benefits for life, then work one government job after another for the absolute minimum to collect retirement benefits for life (in many cases at nearly full pay). By the time they are done, they are collecting 3 or more retirements, getting free healthcare at the VA, and collecting social security disability on top of it all because at some point along the way they hurt their back *cough*
It makes me sick.

The people I have experience with at the federal and state jobs are usually born and raised here. Mostly blacks from different cities willing to move anywhere for what they have been taught is success. A government job. My main point isn’t that they are bad it’s that this is all many have “learned” growing up. That is sad in this great country.
Immigrants in my area? maybe 1% and they work mostly for the local farms and ranches. Paid housing in good homes, good wages and freedom.
Thee mother5s need to stay home and be mothers. It is criminal to drop kids off at age 3. These women should be prosecuted.
One or two months ago, there was a report that the White House requested from the OMB, "grading" Federal Programs from 0 to 100% effectiveness. Anything below 70% can safely be considered questionable; under 40% is a clear "FAIL".
As I recall, Head Start was in the mid 30s.
Unfortunately, the bureaucracy sees to it that any embarrassing data like that is virtually impossble for the ordinary citizen to obtain. I spent a couple of days trying to download the data in the form it was presented on cable news, but failed.

Worth poking around, even if the site forces you to find the data for each of the gazillion Federal Departments separately. And the numerical rating is not given; however, ineffective pretty much covers it.
I laugh when the elected and appointed criminals in the Executive Department ask us with moronic expressions, "where do you want us to cut?
