Heavy Metal: 12 Million Tons of Chinese Rice Contaminated
Time.com ^ | 2/23/11

Ugh. Hong Kong's English daily South China Morning Post has a distinctly unsavory dispatch from the Chinese media this morning: Government scientists have released research that millions of acres of Chinese agricultural land and over 12 million tons of Chinese grain are contaminated by toxic metal pollution, according to this week's edition of the China Economic Weekly, a state-run magazine.

Last week, a separate article reported that 10% of Chinese rice contained excess cadmium, a heavy metal known to cause cancer.

Heads up... Another article about tainted Chinese goods. It's becoming quite an exercise to avoid Chinese crap while shopping; the stuff is everywhere-- 'Top Care' products, for instance, at the pharmacy: from China and packaged to look like trusted brands (and on the shelf right next to them!).

I found an "organic" canned tomato product at the store labeled 'Full Circle' that I'm very suspicious of. All the other tomato products say 'Product of USA' or "Product of Italy,' etc. 'Full Circle' says nothing except that it's imported... Wish there were a website we could go to that would tell us where all this crap is coming from.

But I thought collectivism meant clean air, clean water, and perfectly safe products?

At least that is what the libs tell us, right?

I figure that as 1.92e^11 servings of rice, using 2oz (uncooked) as a standard serving. That's a lot of meals to miss.

That’s fine. There is plenty of white long grain rice grown right here in the US, mainly in Texas and Louisiana. Don’t buy Chinese rice and you directly aid the US economy.

Jesus Christ!!! OMG, is that true? I shouldn’t be so surprised, I guess; the Chinese Communist Party doesn’t care about it’s own people. Why should it care about ours?

IMHO I would not put it past the chinese.
They have been caught red handed numerous times.

I’d like to see that link. I’d like to see the video of the gut sitting at a table with a little putty knife filling up rice husks with plastic, too, but I’ll settle for the link.

Never, never, never, NEVER buy food from the ChiComs. If it doesn’t say, ASSUME it is from China.

Get your food locally - best from a farmer’s market or even better if you grow it yourself. If you don’t know where a food product is from, choose something else. It’s important for your health, but also helps keep American dollars in America.

All I can say is that other asians are suspicious of chinese produce and are making these claims.

They wont eat it.

Fred Meyer stores I fear are doing this....some of their own brand juices, usually much cheaper, don't specifically say where they are produced....

we should start a thread about what IS made in America...

surprisingly, I don't think Carharts are, nor much of Cabelas stuff.....

The claim is that they are making an orzo like product using plastic as a filler, and selling it as rice.

We know for a fact that they were making dumpling dough from cardboard during the olympics.
