Republicans Defend First Lady’s Obesity Efforts
Wall Street Journal ^ | 2/27/2011 | Bill Tomson

Two prominent Republicans, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and likely 2012 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, came to the defense of First Lady Michelle Obama’s efforts to reduce childhood obesity.

Speaking on separate Sunday talk shows, the Republicans said they stood behind Mrs. Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign despite conservative criticism.

Mr. Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor who shed many pounds himself when in office, said on “Fox News Sunday” that obesity is a problem threatening the welfare of the entire country.

“What Michelle Obama is proposing is not that the government tells you that you can’t eat dessert,” Mr. Huckabee said. Rather, the first lady wants Americans “to recognize that we have a serious obesity crisis–which we do,” Mr. Huckabee said.

When it comes to advice about food and healthy diets, I know which one of these 3 people I'd believe.

I really dislike obesity. I have some friends and family who are overweight so it’s not that I hate the obese, but I really dislike obesity. However, the one thing I hate much more than obesity is government interference in the lives of free Americans. It’s not “Michelle Obama’s efforts.” I guarantee the Obama’s have not spent a nickel out of pocket in the last 2 years. She is crusading on our grandkids’ dime. Not our dime, that crap was spent years ago.

Stay classy.

I was classy, other wise I wouldn't have used the asterisks in place of two of the letters.

It doesn’t bother me, but if Rush wants to make fun of anyone because of their weight, he better be skinny.

If she is going to start a campaign about the problems of obesity/overeating/ consuming useless calories..
Then she needs to LEAD BY EXAMPLE.

Telling us all about what we should be feeding our kids, and the jetting off to Colorado and stuffing her face with ribs, is the height of hypocrisy.

THAT is what Rush is talking about.

Actually it's not OT :-)
Actually it IS OT because Rush is not, will never be, nor is he trying to be in a powerful position to dictate, mandate or influence what is or is not healthy or is or is not proper eating habits.

Have disqualified from consideration in my book of possible Presidential candidate - the Government has no business in regulating, or even caring about citizen’s weight or fat to body ratio!

POX on both of their houses, they are both frauds, mere cardboard cutout actors playing a meaningless script of deception while our country is being destroyed from within!!

There's nothing that this program has that's weird or socialist...
Right, there's nothing socialist about a big government "program" meddling in labeling, nutrition "standards", and offered products for sale...Oh and the size of restuarant portions too...Nope, nothing socialist, big government about "that program" at all.

Maybe a little less concern about Rush Limbaugh's weight and more concern about Michelles big government (socialist) intent is in order.

As long as there are no Federal dollars involved, she can promote a collared greens only diet for all I care. But so far, her ideas have resulted in actual spending of actual taxpayer money on actual federal programs. So she should STFU.

Despite what he claims, I suspect that Governor Huckabee underwent gastric bypass surgery. I’m sure Mr. Limbaugh could afford this (he makes well north of $100 million a year) but it is dangerous.

I think Rush lost the weight because he wanted to look good for his wedding to Kathryn. I’m sure she pressured him to lose the weight for the wedding. He has gained a lot of it back, as you can see in his golf photos that he’s posted lately and he really doesn’t talk about it that much, if at all, on his radio show. At least when I’m listening I don’t hear it.

He says he hates to exercise, but Kathryn should force him for the sake of his health. Considering his wealth he could install the best private gym and hire the best trainer. I’m sure he has nice swimming pool and a beautiful beach out his back door. He could hire a health-conscious chef that could prepare him healthy meals. Anyone with his means should be a lot healthier.

Well, it’s not as if the MSM would support 2 pudgy white GOP males speaking out against the obesity campaign of our pudgy black FLOTUS - they’d be crucified AND called racist if they dared to disagree.

Its not what she is saying.

Its the fact the government is taking millions of taxpayer dollars to promote and implement her “program”.

It is not the governments place to tell us what to eat or what not to eat.

And it is not their place to missuse taxpayer money in that way.
Let Mchelle start a non profit and seek donations to push her ideas.

I am sick of hearing how wonderful liberals are because they think up and promote programs on which to spend taxpayers money.
