SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- Three years ago, Lamar Grace left Detroit for the suburb of Southfield. He got a good deal - a 3,000-square-foot colonial that once was worth $220,000. In foreclosure, he paid $109,000.
The neighbors were not pleased.
"They don't want to live next door to ghetto folks," he says.
That his neighbors are black, like Grace, is immaterial. Many in the black middle class moved out of Detroit and settled in the northern suburbs years ago; now, due to foreclosures, it is easy to buy or rent houses on the cheap here. The result has been a new, poorer wave of arrivals from the city, and growing tensions between established residents and the newcomers.
"There's a way in which they look down on people moving in from Detroit into houses they bought for much lower prices," says Grace, a 39-year-old telephone company analyst. "I understand you want to keep out the riffraff, but it's not my fault you paid $250,000 and I paid a buck."

Just like a virus the sickness spreads when the healthy flesh around it weakens. All I can say is thank goodness it was a black man who said this and not white guy, or good 'ol Sharpton and Jackson would be on their doorstep with a megaphone tomorrow.
Could you even imagine a white police chief referring to a part of his populace as “my six-figure blacks”? ROFL!

I have a friend who is black.
He has said many times:
‘You can take the black out of the ghetto, but you can NOT take the ghetto out of the black.’
Six-figure blacks disapprove of five-finger discount blacks moving in next door. And who wouldn’t?
Pretty soon there will be “red lining” and “block busting.”

Praise God for the “creative-destruction” of foreclosures. They let my fellow man, like Lamar Grace, get out of the socialist hell that is Detroit.

My six figure whites and asians are concerned about the same thing
That’s been an issue for years. We have a black friend my wife sold a house to and one of the first questions she asked was “How many blacks live in here?” Of course that question could not be answered. Our friend has blacks living next to her and she’s upset because there’s engine oil dripping on the street from their old clunker. So, you can see, this wasn’t about black.
There is still a major housing and mortgage crisis in our country and it will not go away until the federal government butts out, stops artificcially propping it up and allow the free markets to work on their own without interference. If this causes a further collapse in the housing and mortgage industries, then so be it, if only to allow the housing market to reach the bottom on its own so that once it reaches that bottom, it can start to recover on its own.
And the “six figure” group are probably viewed as “acting white” for disdaining the culture of the “five-finger discount” group.
So... do Asian families say, when they see a white family move in next door, “there goes the neighborhood”?

Oh no, we can’t allow that to happen. The lending rules need to be changed to allow anyone access to the “America Dream”.
The purpose of Section 8 housing is to spread that same virus.
