COLORADO SPRINGS - The security guard who saved lives by shooting a gunman at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs has apparently been asked to leave.
In December 2007, Jeanne Assam - working as a volunteer security guard - shot Matthew Murray after he killed two people outside the church. He killed two others the night before at a training center for Christian missionaries in Arvada.
Assam was honored for her quick action. Murray likely would’ve killed more people at the church if she had not shot him repeatedly then pinned him down.
Assam says last year when she told church leaders she is gay, she was asked to leave the church.
New Life pastor Brady Boyd told the Colorado Springs Gazette the report is untrue. "We would never tell someone to leave because of their sexual orientation," Boyd says. "Jeanne will always be a hero at New Life."
Assam gave a speech on Saturday, February 19 at the Pride Center’s annual masquerade ball, a fundraiser for the gay community in Colorado Springs.
The Gazette reports she spoke of the pressures society places on gay people.
New Life Church was in the national spotlight in 2006 when Pastor Ted Haggard left after admitting he had had a relationship with a male escort in Denver.
Reminds me of the theme of the LETTERS TO THE CHURCHES in the Bible. 2000 years later, we haven't improved much.

She was an armed security guard.
She was working (volunteering) at the Church.
A gunman comes to the church, kills a couple of people and she in turn kills the gunman.
I know I am ‘nit picking’, ‘beating a dead horse’ etc but where does this make her a hero?
She was doing her ‘job’.
You (or at least I) do not place someone in hero status when they are simply doing their job.
A cop in a shoot out with couple of bad guys is doing his job.
A cop in a shoot out who zig zags his way, through gunfire, and positions himself where he can take out the ‘bad guy’ is acting heroically.
A HERO is the guy that, when already safe, runs back into the foray to rescue someone else or take out the ‘bad guy’ He is a ‘hero’.
Just another word that has been butchered and handed out like graffiti just to more or less give someone their ‘15 min of fame’.
A soldier, standing with a group of people who spots a grenade and jumps on it is a ‘hero’ - his action will most likely contribute to his early demise - and save the lives of those in the immediate vicinity.
Even if it didn’t go off, the intent was there and he did place himself in an awkward, to say the least, position.
The ONLY EXCEPTION to this rule is if he placed the grenade there himself.

According to r9etb, "she was kicked off the police force in Minneapolis for filing false reports in back the 90s," so she has a history of lying.
Do you have any evidence that pastor Boyd has a history of lying?

Very true. And if the cheaters began speaking at “Tithe Cheaters Pride” events I would expect the Church to openly disapprove. See the difference?
I don’t buy this. It is a “modern” sect of christianity.
I suspect she is just fishing for a payoff and the reporter is complicit for personal agenda reasons.

While this is true, the method for handling unrepentant sexual sin is clearly laid out. Deliver such a one to stan for the destruction of the flesh so that the soul may be saved. Essentially, shun them until they repent (Which is covered in 2 Cor 2:5-11).
New Life church (if they shunned her) was doing EXACTLY what the bible tells us to do.
Actually the word church has been morphed into what it is not.. "Ekklesia"(church) means the called out ones(not congregation) like a Synagogue.. .. called out of the sheep pens.... John ch 10...

I see. I hope you don't exemplify how New Lifers treat those who may have done wrong in their past -- that would make your church's name a bit fraudulent. And I suppose you have no past sins of your own on which we may judge your present conduct.

The quoted passage has NOTHING to do with the tithe. A+S were perfectly within their rights to not sell the land, or to sell it and give part to the church, or to sell it and give all to the church or to sell it and keep it all. They died because they lied and said they were giving all when they weren't.
We don’t live under Judaic law and rules. Tithing was to support a priesthood that owned no land. That is not true of Christians.
Uhhh, read the whole passage. Ananias lied about how much he gave. He said he gave the whole sale price of his home yet he held some back. This incident had nothing to do with tithing one’s income and neither tithes or income are even mentioned. This is why Peter asks why he “kept back part of the proceeds” and notes that he had no obligation to sell the house in the first place. There is nothing in the passage that even hints at an obligation to tithe among Christians, rather, we shouldn’t lie to other Christians. Thus, I am still waiting, show me anywhere in the NT where Christians have an obligation to tithe. (Don’t waste too much time looking because it’s not there.)
I wasn't talking about Pastor Boyd. I was calling the FReeper on his conduct. He stated his opinion as fact.
My opinion on the matter, is that the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. Ms. Assam is telling things to make herself look as good as she can.
And I think Mr. Boyd is doing the same.
Nobody disputes that she left: and one must assume that she left for a reason -- probably related to the topic at hand.
The old "more to the story" rule applies here.
But if you want to know about my sin, I have lots of it and I confess it, New Life is full of sinners including Brady Boyd. Jeanne is welcome to sit in the chairs with all the rest of us liars, adulterers, drug addicts, murders, thieves and hypocrites. We are all sinners at our church and all are welcome including you.
