Taxing Hiding Senators
Posted: 11:53 AM Feb 28, 2011

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- As Illinois becomes a haven for Democrats on the run.

Some Northern Illinois Senators think the legislators should be taxed for the time they spend in the Land of Lincoln.

Republican State Rep. Mike Tryon of Crystal Lake says he plans to introduce a measure to the legislature to tax the Wisconsin senators for their time working in Illinois.

The 14 democrats have been spotted several times in the Stateline over the last week after fleeing the badger state to stall a vote that would strip unions collective bargaining rights. Senator Dave Syverson says the issue is an interesting one, but says he isn’t sure if their actions are taxable.

Senator Dave Syverson said, “There has been a precedent set, we do have laws in Illinois that do say if you are going to conduct business in Illinois you need to pay taxes in Illinois so if we follow the letter of the law there is a precedent there that taxes would be made."

Nothing gets a limousine liberal running faster than the threat of paying taxes they owe. That’s always someone elses job.

Who wants to be the socialist republics of SF or Seattle is their next destination?

Nice job. A week long vacation, maybe not. Being a coward in another state for entire YEAR? Well, that means something.

Although the Dems' stunt in running away from their jobs in the Wisconsin State Senate was dumb, it's just as foolish for the Illinois GOP legislators to suggest that they should be taxed by Illinois.

The most just thing to do would be to dock their Wisconsin wages on a pro rated basis for the time spent AWOL from their jobs.

Why does not Ill represnetative Mike Tyron - Crystal lake return to Crystal Lake take the Illinois State Police and simply arrest the Wisconsin Democratic Senators as Fugitives and tax dodgers. Okay the Green bay packers, Milwaukee Bucks and Milwaukee Brewers all have to pay taxes for the time they are present in Illinois for any and every game. The Wisconsin 14 Fleebaggers are working in Illinois, and will be paid when they return to Wisconsin. The Illinois state troopers simply take them to jail and inform the State of wisconsin to come and pick up its criminals. The Illinois stae informs the State of wisconsin that each every Senators is in violation of Illinois state law and owes Taxes. Wisconsin States okay what is the penalty - felony. WI Constitution does not allow felons to serve as a elected official ( I am not sure but I think this is true, if you are a felon how can you vote).

Well they are felons, so it is now your problem Illinois, and Wisconsin Scott walker has now have to appoint 14 new interim senators until a special election can be set up. The Wisconsin Sate senators are now history and now spend time behind bars in Illinois. end of the walk out and Wisconsin moves on. Sends a message to the Indiana senators and any other Sentaor or assembly representative whom desires to do this stunt

They have abandoned their posts. Appoint replacements and drag the replacements to the Senate.

Wisconsin Democratic Senators Tim Cullen (left) and Robert Jauch leave a home in the Westwood Lakes subdivision in Woodstock on Thursday. The senators have been in Illinois for nine days after leaving Wisconsin and stopping a vote on proposed bill that will take away public workers' collective bargaining rights. (Lauren M. Anderson – landerson@nwherald.com)

Runaway senators
meet in Woodstock - Northwest Herald - February 25, 2011

"...Meanwhile, in Springfield, Mike Tryon, R-Crystal Lake, planned to propose an amendment to the tax code to Illinois’ General Assembly to tax Wisconsin legislators for their time working in the state.

“If you make a movie in Illinois, we’re going to tax you. If you’re the New England Patriots and you play at Soldier Field, we’re going to tax you,” Tryon said. “We’re going to tax these legislators just like we tax the Packers.”

A recall drive for each of them would be more in line with their treason.

Although the Dems' stunt in running away from their jobs in the Wisconsin State Senate was dumb, it's just as foolish for the Illinois GOP legislators to suggest that they should be taxed by Illinois.

No, not at all. I pay taxes in both states, IL and WI. Were I to take a client to NY for a day, I'd owe state income tax for that day.

You might recall a minor Al Franken scandal, minor cause anyone familiar with him knows he's stupid. He didn't pay taxes in numerous states where he performed, he blamed it on his accountant who must be less than smart. Unless his client, Al, didn't bring it up.

In many states, you earn income there, you pay taxes there. Entertainers and athletes know this well. If the WI Senators are working in IL, they owe taxes. What I don't know is if IL enforces this on entertainers, athletes, et al. If they don't, they should.

But this isn't breaking new ground at all.

Don't know offhand if Wisconsin has provisions for recall of state senators. And even if they did, most of them would probably survive in their 'Rat districts, unfortunately.

State officials can be recalled only after one year in office. Only some of the senators can be recalled, but it takes a huge number of signatures to get the recall on the ballot — more than 15,000 sigs for a senator.

I'm aware of instances where people who work in multiple states pay income tax to those states. That's common. But that's usually the private sector.

I have no knowledge of a situation where employees of a specific state have paid state income taxes in another state on their state income. (Of course, state employees might earn ancillary income elsewhere and be thereby subject to income taxation in other states.)
