A group of Holocaust survivors, who once considered themselves friends of U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, will be protesting his Miami Beach fundraiser with President Barack Obama on Friday because they say the Florida Democrat has broken a promise to them.
Their unprecedented protest outside the swank Fontainebleau Hotel will be aimed at Obama, too.
Three years ago, they say, Sen. Nelson promised South Florida survivors in his Washington office that he would file legislation to allow them to sue European insurers that sold their families millions of dollars in life insurance policies before World War II. During the 2008 presidential campaign, they say, Obama and vice presidential candidate Joe Biden gave their word of support, too.

They still love Obam and they voted for him. It always comes down to all democrat voters demanding - show me the money.
As my folks came over a bit later, I inherited none of that, and spend endless hours arguing with intelligent idiots.
There’s a pro-America, pro-Israel protest awaiting him as well ....
My family came over in 1880 . we are republicans in can’t understand why more jews are not republicans
“Miami Beach audiences are the greatest audiences in the world!”
The embedded socialist/secularist tendency brought from the Old Country was magnified by New Deal zealotry.
My friends who are conservative jews, I give a lot of credit. They complain how cocktail parties are such a drag. There are so many whining libs and my friends deal with it. Hang in there, good for you.
Well, that's just when socialism took off in Europe and especially Eastern Europe. If your ancestors came from Germany, their main danger was Reform Judaism (which would die in Germany by 1910), not so much socialism.
Lucky you to have grown up in such a sane family.
Leftist Jews(’’reformed’’) don’t believe in Judaism as their religion but socialism instead.
1. Until Enlightenment, the main source of threat to the Jews came from the Church and religion. Judaism was viewed as a faith and Jews as foreigners (although Jews arrived in France before the Frank, for instance, no Jew had citizenship anywhere in Europe until the French Revolution). All living Jews were Christ-killers that have personally killed Christ.
None that happened in this country. Although there was considerable discrimination until 1950s, there were no pogroms --- ever. What Jews imported from Europe was instinctive fear of religiosity: it was Christian holidays and especially Easter that were the most dangerous; it was a very religious person who was more likely to get angry at a Jew for "killing Christ."
As a result, you see today what appears to be totally silly: many Jews today are apprehensive of fundamentalist Christians who are actually their best friends --- better friends of Israel, for instance, than many Jews. But the knee-jerk reaction to religiosity has long roots in Europe.
2. "Enlightened" European could not possibly hate Jews for supposedly killing Christ because they were no longer Christian and did not really care. So, quite interestingly, the view of the Jews now undergoes a transformation: they are now an ethnic group, a tribe, a civilization, etc. --- something beyond religion. It is this view that was inherited by Hitler and prompted him to annihilate on the basis of bloodlines rather than attendance of the synagogue.
Promise of equality, hence acceptance, is what drove many Jews to socialism. After 17 centuries in France, after 10 centuries in Germany, they will finally be "like everybody else!" And it was not just Social-Democratic version of socialism. In Russia, where oppression was much, much greater than in Austria or Germany, many Jews became enamored with Communism.
Those that were already infected in 1910-1920 and came to this country, have not fully abandoned those beliefs. So now you have many "red-diaper babies:" those that grew under their left-leaning parents. I see no diversity of opinion in Manhattan, for instance: if you grow up there, be you Jewish or Italian, you may never ever cross paths with a conservative.
Well, those that remained truly Jewish attend Orthodox and Conservative Synagogues today. They vote overwhelmingly Republican, but you hardly see them on TV: they are "ethnic-looking" and have never been to Ha-a-avard. The Leftists attend so-called Reform Temples and practice the most watered-down Judaism. They are vocal, constitute a majority, and vote overwhelmingly Democratic.
Hope the foregoing perspective helps.
We are reform Jews. I grew up with classical reform Judaism. Today that hardly exists. But 65% of reform Jews are sadly Rats. How fast the forget history.
Sad indeed; I often think the same nowadays.
Shalom.

Owned by the UAE sheik’s DubaiWorld investment arm Istithmar World. http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-03-17/fontainebleau-miami-said-to-offer-restructuring-plan-update1-.html
the UAE and Dubai sheiks actively forbid entry into UAE of anyone using a Israeli passport. http://news.scotsman.com/world/Israelis-face-total-bar-on.6114265.jp
The board of Directors of Istithmar World actively donate funding to Muslim and non-Muslim anti-Semites and Holocaust deniers.
On top of that, their Istithmar World lawyers and investment counselors are almost all Florida/NYC/Tel Aviv Jews for North American investments.
It’s a weird weird world.
One technique I love to use at liberal-infested social gatherings is to elaborately praise Sarah Palin. Most folks can't tell if I'm being serious or sarcastic, and their fumbles are entertaining to behold.
Look, I'll say, who'd you rather have sitting across from Putin, some old lady who let her husband run around on her, or a lusty wench who can field dress a moose?
Back in 1880, the Jewish population of the US was relatively small, but the majority of them were Republicans, stemming from an identification with Lincoln and his legacy. Most of those Jews at the time were of German descent.
The posted demonstration can be seen as yet another indicator that American Jews as a group are currently moving away from the 'Rats. The Obama administration's anti-Israel, anti-Jewish policies are stimulating that process.
When and if Obama runs for re-election in 2012, the guess here is that he will not get much more than 50% of the Jewish vote.
