A federal appeals court has upheld a previous ruling that permitted a student at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville to wear a T-shirt critical of homosexuality.

After the school allowed students in 2006 to participate in an annual Day of Silence to promote tolerance of homosexuals, a student wore a T-shirt that stated, "Be Happy, Not Gay."

School officials objected and first changed the words on the shirt to say, "Be Happy, Be Straight." Then they changed it to just, "Be Happy."

I don’t usually comment on the editing of these articles but good grief! I wish the newspapers where making money so they could afford some good editors again!

"Be Happy, Not Gay."

I like it. It's cute. Students can relate to it.

Good job, judge! Freedom of opinion is for everyone - not just the politically correct (politically protected) left wing special interest groups.

“Why are people calling themselves gay among the most miserable in the world, and why is this situation worse in more permissive societies?”

A bit long for a T-shirt but I’m a wordy nerd.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed an opposing brief.

So, the ACLU filed a brief opposing freedom of speech?

Yeah. Go figure. It didn't support their agenda, so they wanted it legally censored.

“School officials objected and first changed the words on the shirt to say, “Be Happy, Be Straight.” Then they changed it to just, “Be Happy.””

Then they changed it to “Be Gay.” Then they changed it to “Everyone should be gay.” Then. . . /s

I guess the school officials have a freedom of self expression, anyway.

Jung said something like that in such societies sexual roles become confused, in part because the roles of children are uncertain.

Sorry but I had to comment on the irony of you misspelling ‘were’ while criticizing the editors of the newspaper.
