Daley: U.S. a 'country of whiners'
By Rick Pearson, Tribune reporter
9:36 p.m. CST, March 3, 2011

Retiring Mayor Richard Daley on Thursday contended America is a "country of whiners" that's spent the last four decades fearing the impact of foreign governments on the nation's economy instead of showing the confidence and sacrifice to lead on a global stage.

Daley also said he believed taxpayers can no longer finance the current level of government and suggested priorities need to be placed on municipal services that can be privatized or outsourced to cut costs.

The comments by the veteran mayor, who is giving way to Rahm Emanuel on May 16, came during a lecture before several hundred people at Wheaton College. The visit was in support of the school's J. Dennis Hastert Center for Economics, Government and Public Policy. Hastert, a former U.S. House speaker from Plano, is a college alumnus.

Daley delivered a 44-minute wide-ranging speech and then spent another 15 minutes answering written questions from students. The Democratic mayor noted that he and Republican Hastert worked together for the region despite their partisan labels and bemoaned a lack of respect that had gone beyond politics into "society in general." Daley's talk had the appearance of a tryout for a post-retirement career that likely will include paid public-speaking gigs.

"Chicago = a South Side full of whining freeloading reparationists and community organizers who make everyone and everything else in the city broke".

(fixed it)

That line was already used.

Anyone else see the same pattern happening now as did 2 years ago during election season?

There is no bigger coward within 10,000 miles of Chicago than former mayor Shortshanks.

He has introduced America to a human worm. He should be hanged right-side up, upside-down, sideways and see a rope strung thru his ass to find his head.

May God love and bless Chicago-style thick pizzas. At least when I’m in town. (Bears suck. Go Green Bay)

America is a "country of whiners"

You and your buddies trained them that way. Now you don't like it?
