MARCH 7, 2011 Democrats to End Union Standoff
By KRIS MAHER And AMY MERRICK
Playing a game of political chicken, Democratic senators who fled Wisconsin to stymie restrictions on public-employee unions said Sunday they planned to come back from exile soon, betting that even though their return will allow the bill to pass, the curbs are so unpopular they'll taint the state's Republican governor and legislators.
The Wisconsin standoff, which drew thousands of demonstrators to occupy the capitol in Madison for days at a time, has come to highlight efforts in other states to address budget problems in part by limiting the powers and benefits accorded public-sector unions.
Sen. Mark Miller said he and his fellow Democrats intend to let the full Senate vote on Gov. Scott Walker's "budget-repair" bill, which includes the proposed limits on public unions' collective-bargaining rights. The bill, which had been blocked because the missing Democrats were needed for the Senate to have enough members present to vote on the bill, is expected to pass the Republican-controlled chamber.
He said he thinks recent polls showing voter discontent with Mr. Walker over limits on bargaining rights have been "disastrous" for the governor and Republicans and give Democrats more leverage to seek changes in a broader two-year budget bill Mr. Walker proposed Tuesday.

“Good thing that we have local talk show hosts, Vicki McKenna, Mark Belling and Charlie Sykes, who are going to be ALL OVER this. If anyone can expose the union backroom deals, itll be one or all of them.” ~ Mountain Mary

Senate orders arrest of missing Democrats
Senate Republicans Thursday ordered the forcible detention of their 14 Democratic colleagues, who fled the state two weeks ago to avoid a vote on Gov. Scott Walker’s controversial budget repair bill...
...[Attorney] Troupis insisted the detention is not an arrest because the senators are not suspected of any crimes. Rather, he said, the resolution seeks to enforce a legislative process.

Longtime Sen. Fred Risser, D-Madison, said it was “below the dignity of the state Senate to be spending its time passing such resolutions.”
Some police - many of whom have marched alongside protesters against Walker’s plan to effectively end collective bargaining for public workers - have already objected to the arrest resolution.
>> They are coming back cause the unions pushed through side deals all over the state giving the unions incredible deals.
Yeah, that’s the prevailing FR opinion which I’ve not seen elsewhere.
Speaking of journalism, it would be cool to have a FR News Journal operated as an arm of FR (presumably a Robinson operation). The journal would include news, editorial, opinion, and satire. It could live in the commercial space and include an advertising revenue model. I’m sure it would do well and wouldn’t interfere with the practice and spirit of FR.
I hope they do come back and are immediately arrested, then thrown out of their cushy Senate seats.
But, that’s just me, LOL!
This was done to buy time so local unions could get their hooks into towns and munis for more benefits and lock them in before the budget passes. The ‘Rats have been beaten.
Don’t believe anything you read about polls showing Governor Walker is losing support.
It doesn’t matter what deal the unions have made. The funding won’t be there to pay for them.
Making the recent deals public should be enlightening.
Yep. It was a ploy by the ‘Rats to appease their Union Masters. :)
Kenosha, Waukesha, MATC for starters - Madison public schools were working on a deal too.

Cowardly rats say they are coming back. We’ll see! They change their mind alot, think the public sentiment is on their side. We’ll see how well received the cowards are when they slink back into their seats in the Capitol.
It’s like when my daughter was about three, would have a tantrum and go to her room ..and then try to figure out how to emerge from the cave while saving some sort of face!
She’d say, “I’ll stop if you open the door”. I’d say, “No, you stop crying and I’ll open the door”.
STANDOFF!
Can’t remember who won the battle. It was probably her, by having more resolve!
But with this situation in Madison, I see no way that the Fleebaggers look good or “win”! They had the tantrums, made fools of themselves and now have to accept the consequences of their immature choices!
Parade them in front of the masses to be mocked! :-)
When pigs fly..but seriously.
If anyone should be yelling “shame, shame”, it should be us at them!
They just want to prolong the event until they could claim a false victory with phony poles and made up news.
