People who came to this country illegally should simply return home to sort out their situation there.

The woman said her husband hasn't applied for citizenship because they can't afford the thousands of dollars to get his green card or citizenship

As a legal immigrant, it took me years to get my green card first, and citizenship next. But it did not take thousands of dollars! I had some application fees, plus the expenses of occasionally driving to the local INS office. The most expensive item was the trip to Atlanta for my citizenship exam, but even that did not come anywhere close to "thousands of dollars".

I do believe some people expend ridiculous amounts of money in this same process. I have seen people with immigration lawyers, filling in the same paperwork that my husband and I had filled in the convenience of our living room. I wonder how much those fancy immigration lawyers charge! What a scam!

He is an illegal. He needs to go home. Wonder who put them up to this and what they were promised?

Welcome to America! Thanks for not claiming some victim hood/superiority status on me. All most of us really ask is that immigrants pledge allegiance to the principle of liberty and come through the front door.

Exactly. This piece is emotion driven propaganda. Even if her husband is what she says he is, there are hundreds of illegals who aren't interested in assimilating. In a neighborhood not far from where I live, there are grocery stores with signs written in Spanish. Not a word of English to be seen.

Try waltzing into Mexico undocumented. You'll sit in jail until your relatives come up with enough money to bribe corrupt officials.

Thanks! I consider it a badge of honor that I got my citizenship on time to vote for President Bush!

Same here. In canada, I had to go thru hoops to get my permanent residency card...everything from my criminal check in Canada with the RCMP, blood test given for medical check-up and my girlfriend who’s also canadian did the same..including getting ANOTHER criminal check back in Ireland! And the amusing part is that although I’m from Vancouver BC, EVERYONE regardless of province has to fly to Montreal for the exit interview AND fingerprint.

F these illegals. Scumbag POS.

I would like to thank you for your post. Why?

Not caving into the demands of illegals is equated with "racism". This card is worn out, and I could care less about what label the left wants to slap on me.

It's not about racism, it is about doing what virtually every country in the world does. Protecting the sovereignty of your country. For some reason, every country on the planet has that right, yet they think the United States should be the exception.

Regards.

>> The mother said she’s scared for her husband and afraid their family will be torn apart.

Uh, the way to prevent that tragic outcome is for ALL of you illegal wetbacks to swim back home to mejico. Then the whole family can be together where you belong.

Much of northern NJ’s cities and surrounding suburbs are turning into this; you’d never believe you’re in America.

Family of illegal immigrant needs to STFU!

I have zero compassion or sympathy for illegals. They’ve been the perps far more often than they’ve been the victims.

They are a net drag on our country.

When did you go through the process? As recent as 1998 the process, doing it yourself, cost at least a couple thousand dollars. From other family members the fees have gone up even from then.

I’m not knocking you at all and I don’t feel any sympathy for the people in the story.

First, congratulations, and a belated welcome.

I'm sure your legally obtained Green Card and Citizenship Papers were much cheaper to obtain through proper channels, than good-good fake ones would cost an ineligible illegal. ;-)

Also, priorities, priorities, priorities! Money, always in short supply, for papers; or money for "necessities": flat screen; X-Box; iPads/iPods/iPhones; chrome spinner rims...? Hard choices! /sarc

I’m not sure when did I begin, but I took the naturalization exam in the summer of 2000. I remember that very well because, just as expected, I was asked why I wanted to become a citizen. I answered that I wanted to vote and the smart aleck examiner told me that I could not vote during the 6 months following the naturalization. I stopped him, that’s not what the 14th amendment says, once I am a citizen I will be entitled to all the rights that born citizens have. The man hesitated, then looked at the text of the amendment, and said that I did not need to take the test. He signed my papers without further questioning! But no, it did not cost me thousands of dollars. I think both application fees together were less than $500. The rest was gas, a night in a motel... Oh! and a copy of Barron’s book on how to prepare for the citizenship exam. I would put the total cost under $1000. Time was a different story, it took several years.

Coming soon to a neighborhood near you. The thing is, I have the impression that it is a requirement by law to have English in places of commerce. Which shows the disdain these folks have for our laws to begin with.

Here in NJ it isn’t the law, though one town passed a law requiring signs to have certain things in English. Emergency responders couldn’t effectively navigate all of the signs in Korean (Palisades Park, NJ). I’m south of there, where we have all of the lovely roach-spray billboards in Spanish and all of our cross-walk signals changed from “Walk”/”Don’t Walk” to “red hand”/”white figure walking”. Americans continue to leave in droves, and a few years back they admitted that without illegal immigration NJ lost population (hence the sanctuary nonsense here and in NYC; whole sections would be ghost towns, accompanied by school closings and municipal employee layoffs). I believe we recently lost an electoral vote.

Text excerpt:

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- As New Mexico steps closer to stricter licensing laws for illegal immigrants, the family of a local illegal immigrant is risking blowing his cover to send a message to legislators.

The mother said she's scared for her husband and afraid their family will be torn apart.

Her husband of the past six years is an illegal immigrant.

"He doesn't drink, he doesn't smoke, he doesn't do drugs -- he works, he does his taxes," the woman said. "He has been one of the most positive role models of a man that I have ever encountered in life."

The New Mexico House of Representatives voted Friday to prevent illegal immigrants from getting driver's licenses.

The local press and TV stations are working overtime to depict illegals as victims in new-Governor Martinez' efforts to prevent illegals from getting licenses. However, as a prosecutor in Las Cruces since 1996 she knows the damage criminal illegals do to society (crime, drugs) let alone costs for social services.

It will take a small miracle for the bill that passed the house to make it through the Rat-controlled state senate.
