GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) -- An Oregon school bus driver fired after he refused to remove a Confederate battle flag flying from his pickup truck has enlisted the help of a conservative civil liberties group in hopes of getting his job back.
The Rutherford Institute of Charlottesville, Va., sent a letter Wednesday to First Student Bus Transportation Services demanding that Ken Webber of Medford, Ore., be reinstated.

Employers are getting more brazen in on employees personal lives ! My previous company, I was talked to about parking my beat-up truck by the building and being told that I am paid enough and should buy a vehicle that reflects my pay-grade ! They need to mind their own business !
Confederate battle flag in Oregon? No wonder. Hippy-left, far north Oregon is not exactly dear old Dixie. This guy must be a former southerner living somewhat out of place now in Oregon.

Far north Oregon, yes, but Grants Pass is in the south. South-western Oregon does have deep and continual links to the south, beginning with Joseph Lane, who was the VP candidate on the Southern Democratic ticket in 1860.

Seems to me that since the Westboro Church nuts had their Free Speech Rights affirmed, this guy should be able to sue for his job back plus a BIG BONUS check.
I live in Grants Pass, there’s lots of good ol’ boys, rednecks, miners and loggers around, even a few cowboys, ranchers and farmers.
It’s a great place to live...

You won’t get any argument from me on that point. My father spent his childhood in Glendale—I grew up in Coos County, but had a couple of aunts and a number of cousins in Grants Pass and Medford. Too bad the economy stinks. At my 10th High School reunion, few of the guys, and none of the college graduates, had settled any closer than Portland—and I imagine that things have only gotten worse (and we are talking relatively large numbers of people—Marshfield is the largest school on the whole of the Oregon Coast).
