Capitol Chaos: Fitzgerald Calls Capitol "Unsafe"
620WTMJ ^ | 3/10/11 | Tim Lethlean, Jon Byman

MADISON - State Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says the situation at the Capitol is "unsafe."

Fitzgerald appeared on Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Wisconsin's Morning News.  He's concerned about the ability for business to take place inside the Capitol.

"Law enforcement is doing the best they can, but they're just undermanned," Fitzgerald said.

The State Assembly is scheduled to be in session at 11:00 a.m. Thursday.  Fitzgerald says that could be tough under current conditions.  "They're (officers) are having a very difficult time cleaning out, not only the assembly wing, but the rotunda is still full of protesters."

Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald is also urging caution.  "I have told my members to not enter the building until we get word that it is safe," Fitzgerald told Newsradio 620 WTMJ.

As to whether Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald is concerned about the safety of legislators and staffers, he's quick to say "Absolutely."

"Senators could not move freely through the building, let alone even get in an elevator last (Wednesday) night to get out of the building," Scott Fitzgerald said.

Even with the chaos, Fitzgerald is appreciative of the efforts of law enforcement, saying "They're doing the best they can, but they're just under-manned."

Protesters forced their way into the Capitol following the senate vote Wednesday night.  Fitzgerald says many of those protesters had help getting into the building, claiming "When the Democrat staffers opened the windows for protesters to get in...that's not how democracy is supposed to work."

I say tear-gas them like they would if TEA Party protestors ever acted like this, which we know we wouldn’t.

There goes all the savings. The upfront costs are going to be big.

We are conservatives. We believe in self preservation and self defense.

ARM AND DEFEND YOURSELVES.

We are not Gandhi. Pacifism will only get more people hurt.

Unless I’m mistaken, state troops can’t be deployed without an order from the governor. I suspect Walker is being reluctant to do that, because it’s almost a guarantee that if state troops are brought in there will be a riot.

The State Troopers and all other LEO’s are under the command of the incident commander (Read the Capitol Police chief). He is calling the shots.

Will our esteemed “PRESIDENT” CALL ON THE CITIZEN THUGS TO BACK OFF??

This is EXACTLY what Obama wants to see happen. To rebuild this nation into his idea of a socialist 'paradise', you must first tear down the existing structures.

What's happening in WI is a prime example of this.

If someone gets shot in this situation its all on the Unions!

If I were the Union leaders I would pull my people back. It's a good thing for the Unions this situation isn't playing out in Texas or in South Central Ohio. If the thugs hurt someone in those areas it would be Open Season on Union Thugs!

The reason I say so about South Central Ohio is we had a nasty Teacher's Union Strike in our area in the 90's and they brought in United Mine Workers to threaten the Temp Teachers. There was some violence including assault and battery and property damage And worst of all the vile bastards hung a couple of Dogs owned by the Superintendent and then skinned them alive.

After that the local people had enough and an unofficial deputation visited some of the Teacher Union Leaders at their homes in the wee hours and explained the situation. The Teachers Union around here has been very quiet ever since!

Technically the Capitol is “closed” and it sounds like a few hundred nutbags are inside making nuisances of themselves.

Best source for info is the DOA blog: http://www.doa.state.wi.us/
