Quake hits Hawaii as residents brace for tsunami

HONOLULU (AP) — A 4.5-magnitude earthquake has struck Hawaii as residents brace for a tsunami after a massive earthquake in Japan.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damages from the quake that hit the Big Island about 30 miles southeast of Hilo just before 11 p.m. Thursday. The first waves from the tsunami were expected to hit about 3 a.m. Friday.

They’ve had a busy week on the islands: Volacanoes erupting, earthquakes and now a tsunami on it’s way yikes!

It isn’t uncommon to have aftershocks that are only a point less than the primary event.

So there could still be an 8 as an aftershock... All I can say is yikes!

The moon is on its closest approach to earth in more than a decade increasing tidal strains on the earth’s crust. They’re calling it a “Super Moon”...

Near the next full moon coming up it is supposed to be at its closest - and create the most extreme tidal stresses...

So if something is near the edge of slipping, the added tidal stresses can push it over the edge... The next month or so could be pretty nasty...

I live in Central California about 30 miles from the San Andreas fault and I’m nervous...
