Lessons From the Battle of Madison
American Thinker ^ | March 14, 2011 | J.R. Dunn

Long, drawn-out crises can be frustrating in more ways than one. I had a first-class piece written about the Wisconsin standoff the first week, just waiting for the climax. Full of apt historical references, allusions to the Grenada invasion and the advent of Maggie Thatcher. But then it dragged on, and dragged on.... Day after day, week after week.  By the time it ended, many of my "insights" such as they were, had been stumbled across by various media gnats, tearing huge holes in my thesis. Publishing it now would make me look even sillier than usual. So instead, three points:

And for the union demonstrators, Wisconsin Democratic senators, and media types, here's a tune for the long trip home. You'll remember this one, I'm sure. It's track one.  Enjoy.

The only point I disagree with him on is in the time Mr. Walker took. I think it gave people a good dose of who the Dims truly are.. and they don’t like it. The left will always be Fascist but the average person doesn’t like blatant thuggery and now they know which party celebrates it.

Good analysis. Good call.

I would only add that, if he had wrapped it up quickly, he would have been accused of "rushing to judgment," "not listening to all sides," "railroading the opposition," "ramming his views down the throats of teachers," and countless other charges.

He really had no choice but to let it drag out until people got sick of it. By running away, the Dumb-o-crats just made it that much easier.

And they think they're the smart ones. What a joke.

I was going to include your point as it’s spot on. It was a set up the left was itching for. In fact I’m certain many articles were pre-written on this very point.. that are now filed in a trash can.. which, I must admit makes me smile a bit. I think the timing made all necessary points and in the lead-in to any recall efforts will serve well.

Let me tell you something else. There are left-wingers out there who monitor FR, and a few of them are doubtless going to read this thread. One would think that it might cause them to re-examine their assumptions, take another look at the belief system they've bought into.

But it won't.

It's just going to make them more angry, more unhappy, more frustrated. It's going to intensify their feelings of victimhood, the weight of the enormous chip they carry on their shoulders.

There's nothing we can really do about that, but it is unfortunate.

It gets even better with the news tonight that the Senate Dems are still in contempt and cannot vote in any committee hearings. I guess they will be unable to vote on anything until they return during a full session, now scheduled for April 5.

Spot on. It allowed the mushy middle to get a good look at unionism. It seemed at every step of the way the unions did the exact wrong thing.

The public’s mindset has shifted and it didn’t go Obama’s way.

Thanks neverdem.
This is not to imply that Scott Walker should have swung the axe immediately, but three weeks is stretching it.
He gave the Demwit absconders more than enough time to come back and do their duty as they saw it, so this was a win-win from the standpoint of PR.
