Obama demands that we 'seek agreement' on guns; will he agree to rein in BATFE?
St Louis Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 14 March, 2011 | Kurt Hofmann

Posted on 03/15/2011 6:51:15 AM PDT by marktwain

The plan for today's article had been to point out that more than six and a half weeks have passed since Jan. 27--the date, as discussed here, on which Newsweek had said that "in the next two weeks, the White House will unveil a new gun-control effort in which it will urge Congress to strengthen current laws . . . " The idea had been to point out that the noisiest, shrillest advocates of "gun control," who have not been shy about criticizing what they seem to perceive as President Obama's disregard for their agenda, haven't really made much noise about the passing of those "two weeks," and to wonder why they have not.

Could it be that they know that "Project Gunwalker" could not have happened without White House knowledge and (at least tacit) approval, and that the only plausible motive for "Gunwalker" is as a major offensive against private gun ownership in the U.S., and they were thus inclined to cut him some slack? Even if it's looking pretty bad now, with dire effects on our diplomatic relationship with Mexico, what "gun control" group would not applaud the effort to attack gun rights, no matter the cost in lives?

So much for this writer's best laid plans, which were neatly preempted when Obama yesterday did come out with his appeal for what he calls "common sense" infringements on that which shall not be infringed. From his guest editorial in the Arizona Daily Star:

This is a very reasonable question. If the President is reaching out to gun owners, a show of good faith would be a robust investigation of the gunwalker scandal.

Hopefully, the Pubs in the house will stop this assault on the 2nd admendment. Isn’t Sen leader Reid a pro 2nd admendment supporter. Of course, he is a RAT, so his loyalty lies with obamma, so screw the constitution!

Can’t wait until obambi presents his plan for gun ownership.

What? He doesn’t HAVE a plan?

Oh, that’s right, he NEVER has a plan. He just waits until someone else presents THEIR plan so that he can tag along on it and complain about anybody else’s plan.

He really doesn’t have TIME to make his OWN plans since it would cut into basketball, golf, parties or vacations.

Just deem whatever law you want passed, Barry, because that's what you plan on doing.

We'll undo it after we jettison you from office in 2012.

Any “agreement” arrived at that is amenable to the Obama administration and the Democrats would be a reduction in the strength of the 2nd amendment. There is no winning outcome of an effort like this for the gun rights crowd. I’m glad to see the NRA has refused to participate.

Zero is a community organizer. HE never has actual plans.

He just throws out some haribrained Commie/Fascist/Socialist/Marxist/Progressive/Dummie scheme and waits for his minions to come up with a plan.

Obama isn't part of this ~ he's just their talking head and "go to a party" guy. But what is happening is very disturbing. This is about the 100th time this regime has gotten itself involved in following a process through to the end even though DISASTROUS problems have surfaced earlier and simply been ignored.

The best examples are Obamakkkare ~ they refused to even discuss the legislation, and actually tried to hide what they were doing in 3,000 pages of BS imagining NO ONE could actually read it.

Then there was the 2010 election ~ the Obamistas continue to speak and act like they won it! They were blown out of the water at every level and its possible the Democrat party will take more than a century to recover in the state legislatures!

Now, we have this gun thing. Somebody cooked up a deal over a year ago, set it in motion, and even though it resulted in the death of a Border Patrolman the Obamistas just can't revise their plan.

They'll pay for this one because they'll have to come into a Republican House filled to the brim with pro-gun rights folks, and they can't just refuse to allow BATF people to "talk about it" when it comes to Obama's gun control plan.

If the Obamistas were rational they'd drop their idea ~ just forget about it ~ make it all go away ~ force the Republicans to FORCE them to let BATF folks testify.

Either the Obama crowd are among the least educable people to ever serve in government or they are on dope, or both. I expect better performance than this out of even Democrats ~ and these Far Leftwing types seem to be the dregs from the bottom of the barrel.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

I'd say we already reached an agreement on guns, after an extended and robust debate.

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

It looks like Obama promised to support the agreement that we reached. Discussion over.

The only possible show of good faith by Obamalini would be for him to announce that he will fully support the 2nd Amendment.

Can we agree on where his was born and that his time will be up in 2012?

“The only possible show of good faith by Obamalini would be for him to announce that he will fully support the 2nd Amendment.”

He has repeatedly done that. It simply doesn't mean anything to him. As with most leftists, oaths mean nothing. They are simply another way for them to get what they want.

Well, I meant that he would say it and really, really mean it (no crossed fingers behind his back) ;-)

Good point.

Obama is an enemy of the United States....he is not a president.....his plans are to abolish the 2d amendment, ban all guns of any kind, and then house to house confiscation of your guns, of any kind. Without an armed public then he cannot be a world rule.....an armed public is a barrier to his dreams.

Here is a very reasonable "compromise" gun control proposal that will decrease the number of firearms in circulation by at least 50%, and will reduce firearm-related violence by probably a comparable margin:

Disarm all Federal employees. Then, seize all guns from registered Democrats.

In general guns are not safe in the hands of Democrats.

Exactly. Let the average Democrat have a gun, and he commits a crime. Let Democrat in authority have guns, and he'll start a war.

With -22 approval rating, he’s in ZERO position to demand anything.

That's an interesting way to balance the Federal budget.

I don't know if the Federal employees who would be "retired" through this effort would approve, though.
