There are many reasons why America's students are falling behind those in other countries. A recent comparison showed that America ranked 25th in Math, 17th in Science, and 14th in reading. This is out of only 34 countries.
Obviously, this poses a number of extreme problems.
If our graduates our inferior to the greatly more populous China (and they are), then inevitably our economy will suffer. The world's economy is dependent on highly skilled jobs, and a nation that perpetually turns out c students is bound to fall behind no matter the lead it started with.
The problems grow larger because we live in a representative republican. These same c students are going to be electing our politicians. Since they are poorly educated, and were never really taught how to think critically, they are likely to pick charlatans that make impossible promises. You need look no further than Obama's inauguration for evidence of this.

I don't believe the teachers set the grade standards or develop the curriculum, do they?
Face it, the #1 reason our schools are failing is because we just don’t spend enough money on education and government doesn’t have enough control over it.
Increase the bureaucracy and the spending on it and our system will then generate smarter kids

I realize it shouldn’t be necessary, but today you never know...ha
Did a principle really say this? Don’t know if you made this up or not but “WOW”, every school in the country should begin their year with this message. Awesome!
mo’ money, mo’ money, mo’ money.
close the NEA! now!
Press 1 for Swahili.
I think he doesn’t offer specific suggestions because he wants to further lower our school’s standards. Coming right out and saying it makes for bad politics though.
Close all public schools and give all the kiddies vouchers for private schools.
We’d actually save money and get better education.
Government can’t do a dam thing right.
I think that teachers are part of the problem, but not the whole problem. They get shoved into a governmental system that basically makes it impossible to do their jobs correctly.
They cannot effectively control their classrooms, because no meaningful consequences are allowed for disruptive students. They have to teach using the constantly changing plans some over-paid administrator makes in order to justify his salary.
Therefore, the good teachers either leave, or become cynical and start counting the years left until they can retire.
Thhey may be crappy in math, science, history, reading , and foreign languages - but, hey, they’ve got great self-esteem!
At least until they go out into the real world, and their “everyone gets a trophy” self-esteem is ground into the dirt by reality.
“Not to nitpick, but a “C” is an average student. An no matter how hard you try, you will always have AVERAGE STUDENTS. “
Not so fast. C doesn’t mean an average student. It means the student scored a 75% on a test.
It also depends on the expectations behind the test. If most kids are capable of learning algebra but they are barely passing simple arithmetic then something is wrong.
Blame it on the NEA
America was better educated in the days of 1 room school houses and 1 teacher for all the classes.
bttt
Proof reading is your friend. That should be If our graduates are inferior
GM failed. Banks failed. Our economy is failing. Our elected leaders are failing. The justice system is failing. The family, as an institution, is failing. The Church is failing. American values are being swept away and being replaced by socialism at every turn.
But we expect our schools to do wonderful things! How strange...
Will this do? ; )

Of course....As I suspected...
However, being somewhat of an entrepreneur, I suggest we go into the shipping business together.
You supply a couple of ships and I will supply the ocean.
Yeah, government runs schools just like it runs everything else: into the ground.
Disfunctional schools where they teach self-esteem, diversity, and globull warming. An immigration policy that is bringing in millions of people who are barely intellectually qualified to pick lettuce. TV and other mass media that pitche to the lowest common denominator. And a parasite society that takes the stigma out of being on the government teat and having babies out of wedlock.
A sure way to head to the bottom.
Fat, stupid, and lazy are no way to get ahead.
