Justice David Prosser May Become A Political Casualty (School choice at risk in WI!)
The Hispanic Conservative ^ | 3/15/11 | Aaron Rodriguez

....

Currently, the Wisconsin Supreme Court tilts conservative with a 4-3 majority. If David Prosser loses his seat, it will most certainly mean trouble for the recent expansion of Milwaukee's school choice program. Governor Walker's budget - already signed into law - expands the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program (MPCP) into Milwaukee County suburbs. This means that low-income students in Milwaukee are now qualified for spending a $6400 voucher on an approved private school of their choice. Poor Hispanic kids who are forced to attend South Division High School, for instance, will not have the chance to attend any of the approved suburban private schools in Oak Creek, Franklin, South Milwaukee, Hales Corners, and so on.

I grabbed the excerpt starting with the relevent part, which started with the second paragraph.

Anyway, looks like those spiteful unions might be going after the kids in the voucher program. Creeps, all of them.

I don't know who has the Wisconsin ping list, but maybe someone will give them a poke in the ribs on this.

Wow. 6400 dollars to send a child to a school of choice. Even conservatives have their pet spending goodies.

It’s actually kind of funny. Taking away a voucher program from the poor in Milwaukee isn’t what I would do to shore up support if I was a democrat. If the democrats lose Milwaukee it’s all over for them.

As opposed to what? Spending $12,000 to send a kid to a school that is not his parents' choice?

And....A goodie that is a favorite of many conservatives ( even here on Free Republic) is their child's government indoctrination camp and babysitting service.

School choice programs SAVE money.

The real number is $ 15,373 PER STUDENT for the Milwaukee Public Schools.

That school district blows a TON of money:

Exactly!

If the Democrats lose even a few percentage points of the black inner city vote, they are in trouble.

Geeze! Think of how hard it will be digging up even more dead bodies to vote, and how many more fake ballots the will need to stuff into the trunks of cars.

What’s really bad about these $6,400 school vouchers is that us hard working, property owning, and tax paying citizens don’t really realize is that these poor unfortunate students’ parents normally live off our tax dollars and (on top of federal earned income credit bonanzas and other state and federal freebies) our property taxes STILL PAY FOR THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND TEACHERS that they won’t be using!

What happened to the “great experiment” called integrated schools and busing that was going to give everyone an equal education? Gee, did anyone think that scholastic achievement began at home???????????????????? Answer: HELL NO!

I’m tired of this pseudo communism (from each according to his ability to each according to his need) through forced confiscation of property (money) by our elected (planted) officials.

You should study a bit more. What alternatives could there be? Take public funding down to zero? Leave existing monopoly providers in place? Is your argument that there should be no public funding of schools?

Vouchers are probably the most important public policy idea out there. It’s fine to argue something else, but don’t paint it as inconsistency because it’s not inconsistent at all. Try reading Richard Epstein’s Simple Rules for a Complex World, if you’re serious about understanding policy. If you just want to carp or are a liberal shill, then full steam ahead.

How would you break up the government cartel on education?

How would get from where we are now to complete privatization of all K-12 education?

um.....we currently spend about 12k per student to send them to the zoo that is Milwaukee publik skools. MSP receives its state funding based on the numbers in attendance. Fewer in MPS, less $$ goes down that rathole.

School choice is not the only issue in Prosser’s reelection - it’s not even in the top ten....Prosser loses and it’s over for Wisconsin. Put a fork in it—done. Simple as that.

Like I said earlier, it’s more than that...it’s $ 15,373 per student.

Wisconsin Tea Partiers are gonna need to get busy, working on the inner-city families using vouchers, the senior citizens who don’t want their taxes to go up, the suburbanites, and the Latino parents whose kids attend the Catholic schools on vouchers.

It will be a Herculean “lift” because you know the miscreants will all miraculously have time away from their jobss to vote.

“How would you break up the government cartel on education?

The answer is very simple: Govern strictly by the provisions of the Constitution! And to this end, where in the Constitution does it state the government will establish public schools?

The only solution to the problem is FIRST, get federal and state government completely out of the school system. Next, revert total control of our schools back to the cities and county governments.......Only!

From there, rebuild the system from the local level.

I agree that the federal and state governments should get out of the education business.

What would the system look like if you could rebuild it on the local level?
