Diet Coke Wins Battle in Cola Wars
Wall Street Journal ^ | March 17, 2011 | Mike Esterl

U.S. sales of Diet Coke overtook those of Pepsi-Cola for the first time in 2010, making the diet soda the No. 2 carbonated soft drink in the country behind Coca-Cola, industry data are expected to confirm Thursday.

Occupying the top two rankings would mark a historic win for Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO - News) in its decades-old rivalry with PepsiCo Inc. (NYSE: PEP - News), which has seen its market share slip in recent years and is trying to retool its marketing.

Diet Coke has been my drug of choice for the last 20 years but there are periods of time I just have to switch to something else just to kick start my taste buds again. Diet A&W Root Beer is currently my choice.

Always drank Diet Coke w/Lime, can be hard to find in stores, until Coke Zero came out. Now Coke Zero is my soft drink of choice.

Have always disliked Pepsi of any flavor. Syrupy, sugar water, tin can flavor to me.

My hubby does that but it is because the regular coke is too sweet for him plus the regular sugar sweetened drinks give him heartburn. If he would QUIT DIPPING!!! he wouldn’t have it. he stopped before and could have any sugar he liked. But did he stay quit? noooooooo LOL

I think it has to do with the fact that Pepsi apparently makes their soda bottles out of garbage.

I switched from Diet Pepsi to Diet Coke because of Pepsi’s unacceptably inconsistent quality control. Whole batches were undrinkable. I prefer Diet Pepsi’s taste to Diet Coke, but Pepsi’s quality control killed the product for me. It sounds like lots of people feel the same way.

'Diet coke with aspartame = poison....'

Isn't that a hoax?

Tab was great until they replaced the saccharine with aspartame. It lost its unique flavor and rat cancer appeal.

Besides the fact that it tastes horrible.

The current Pepsi logo is hideous, looking like an undershirt peaking out from a pair of blue jeans on a fat person bent over.

TAB is gross .. and SO 1960’s ,,, The name TAB is an anacronym ,, it stands for “totally artificial beverage” ...

Diet Coke is OK , Coke Zero is far better ,, I’d rate diet Pepsi ahead of diet Coke ... Pepsi MAX is the best of the bunch .. If you run across a store brand and it’s produced by COTT beverage ,, buy it ,, it is at least as good as the national brands.

I haven’t had a taste issue but I have noticed that the carbonation bubbles in Coke are consistent and tiny whereas the bubbles in Pepsi are usually much larger?? Why?

I’m drinking an Aldi’s Diet GT Cola as I type this. At $1.99 for a 12 pack, or $0.59 for 2 liters, it does the job. I still prefer Coke Zero when I can get it on sale, though. The Aldi’s stuff doesn’t have any bite.

Diet coke has more CO2 in it. I don’t mind the taste of diet Pepsi from a fountain but from the can, it is too flat for my taste.

Heh, when I go into “Five Guys”, I get a ‘little’ burger, regular fries and a LARGE Diet Coke. Sadly, the Coke is the kind sweetened with Aspartame. I much prefer the Coke sweetened with Splenda, but it’s nowhere to be found in fast food restaurants.

Neither did I, so I went back up the thread. It kinda looks like the guy with the crack problem in the cartoon at the beginning of the thread. ;o)

May not be the aspartame, but some other substance in the drink.
