Dem Rep wants to make bullying a federal offense
Hot Air ^ | 3/17/11 | Ed Morrissey

While the Department of Education continues its crackdown on mean-spirited taunting on Facebook, some members of Congress are joining the fight in Washington’s War on Bullying with a new bill aimed directly at kids who target students with disabilities.

Rep. Jackie Speier, California Democrat, will introduce a bill that would require schools to report incidents of bullying against children diagnosed with conditions like Down syndrome and Aspergers to the federal government. It would also mandate that any federal dollars that promote anti-bullying programs focus partially on that group.

But, 1) How is this a federal offense? and 2) Equal protection under the law? Bullying special needs kids is a crime, but bullying other kids is merely bad behavior?

Sure!!!!! Where have you been? This is just a logical extension of "Hate" crimes, where a white person mugging a non-white is extra-special double bad, but just mug another white person and they get probation.

I think all kids who are bullied should be given boxing lessons...then let the kids settle it. No adults allowed.

Never mind our unsecured southern border and millions of illegal immigrants in the country... let’s focus on bullying!

The fed just want to get their foot in the door on “school bullying” enforcment so they can take over the pro-homosexual indoctrination/behavioral conditioning campaign that the whole “anti-bullying” movement is really all about.

But but but it's for the chilrennnnn!

Just one more case of some having greater 'rights' than others.

(Not that I am for bullying), but I see this as protecting the GLBTs more than anyone else, and NOT protecting children deemed 'normal', but a venue in which to bully them.

Bullying comes in two forms -- physical violence and verbal abuse. As far as verbal abuse goes, the abuser has Freedom of Speech to fall back on. If physical violence is involved, then there are already laws to protect the person being bullied.

This is a pure power play that allows the fed gov't to have more say in our lives, and to shape society into what it wants, not necessarily what God's laws say or what the citizens want.

Yep, bullying is in the Constitution, right next to penumbra, abortion, privacy, 3-gallons per flush, mandatory seatbelts, children’s carseats, etc.

Isn’t it something that if you rip the arms, legs, and other parts off an unborn baby, and then crush its skull to pull out the remains, you can earn up to $500 from the woman who paid you to kill her baby.

But some hammerass in D.C. wants to make bullying a federal crime AND NOT KILLING OF THE UNBORN AND NEWLY BORN.

ABSOLUTELY INSANE . . . GOD HELP US!

Hey! I know what we can do! We can cripple a child forever by branding him or her a Federal Felon before they mature and develop a sense of decorum!!!1!!!

WHILE WE ARE AT IT, WE CAN USE THIS LAW TO ARREST REPUBLICANS AND TEA PARTY MEMBERS FOR BULLYING, ALL WHILE OUR DEMOCRAT ALLIES ARE CRACKIN' HEADS, THREATENING DEATH ON EMAILS AND VOICEMAILS, AND DESTROYING STATE CAPITOLS!!!!!11!!

WE CAN ARREST THEM FOR WHAT WE ARE DOING!!!11!!!AAAGHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHH

Claire Wolfe is way late.

When selectively enforced, like you know it would be,

this would be a de facto criminalization of the voicing of any conservative/Christian viewpoint.

Once again, great observation MrB. Bullying laws appear to be a way to get society to make a gay lifestyle acceptable. There are already laws in place to protect gays from violence (as there should be). Now they have to go after those that speak God's word concerning the gay lifestyle.

Jackier Speier who wants this bill recently became a hero of the left and the media by taking the floor to talk about her abortion.

Too many folks get drawn in to the leftist deception of re-defining a word that we KNOW means a certain thing,

but they are going to make it mean something entirely different.

“Bullying” as defined by this current agenda simply means having/voicing anti-homosexual beliefs. And it’s not that they want to protect the homos at all, really.

It’s that those speaking out against homosexuality are conservatives/Christians, and this is an avenue through which they can bring the power of the state to bear to punish that belief system.

Actually, that’s EXACTLY the way to defeat this tactic of the left (which they use consistently in every issue),

make them define the terms that they are using.

To the liberals, disagreeing with a liberal is considered “bullying.”

I agree with you completely. I was being facetious. ;0)

Oh, I knew you weren’t being negative towards him,
I just didn’t want anyone to take that tactic lightly.

The left cannot stand to have issues clearly defined and debated in terms that aren’t hiding their agenda,
because they will LOSE.
