BENGHAZI, Libya -- A plane has been shot down over the main rebel-held city in eastern Libya.
An Associated Press reporter saw the plane go down in flames outside Benghazi early Saturday after the area came under shelling.
A black cloud went up over the city's southern outskirts.
Muammar Qaddafi's government declared a cease-fire Friday in an attempt to outmaneuver Western military intervention. But the opposition has been saying shells rained down well after the announcement and accused the Libyan leader of lying.

Not the place to risk having American Airmen downed and paraded.
I know exactly how the Rats do it. They will Google the Iraqi war and search for the republican responses to their "we need Congress' approval" and use those responses for this one.

Going to be hard to tell from the air, not to mention the Libyans also fly French aircraft. Wouldn’t want to have to do IFF in this environment.

Benghazi is a port with an air base so presumably it would have air defenses. The rebels may be in control of some SAM or gun sites.
