Not until the 12th paragraph does it say anything about whether or not these Latinos are legal or not. In that paragraph a woman saying that she wasn't paid declined to give her full name. Why? Because she came to the United States to work illegally and was afraid she would get deported.
Iowa has had milk toast legislators when it comes to illegals. Farmers and businesses alike drive the so called "need" to use illegal immigrants.

Those comments in the Register show how fed up Iowans are getting.
Put yourself in an Iowa farmer’s shoes. You run an operation and need 600 man-hours of help in August and September. If you went after legal help...it’d dig into your profit. So you settle for Juan from Mexico who works for sixty-percent of what a local guy would charge. Across Iowa, lots of farmers get into the same position. And the back side of this is that no sheriff is about to question a farmer on this because the local backlash at election time would toss him out of office.
You can only profile white Americans. You cannot profile any other person regardless of religion or ethnic or citizenship status.
Do away with welfare and the minimum wage and you would find a large labor pool of legal residents of the United States who could perform the work.
Illegal aliens are the nuclear weapons of small business. Once one business has them they all have to have them and when used they screw things up for everyone.
PS - In the way the media hides the fact that a Democrat politician committed a crime of sorts, I’m waiting for the day when a news story starts out with: “Today, a white American blah blah blah”
“Put yourself in an Iowa farmers shoes. You run an operation and need 600 man-hours of help in August and September.”
I don’t know a single reason that a farmer in Iowa would need someone for 600 man hours in August and September. The machinery can do it all now.
These workers are not on the farm picking anything. They are roofers, waitresses, working in egg factories and meat processing factories. You know, what all of us uneducated people did in hard times or when we were kids. /s
These business want illegals and guest workers? Fine. Pay ALL expenses for bringing them here. Medical, Housing, etc. Not one dime of cost from the taxpayer.
Whats that you say? It’s not quite the bargain now?
You are right, Iowa farms, in general, are about corn, wheat, soy beans, all harvested by machine, not lettuce, grapes and oranges.
Not true. If it is a ten-hour job, the latino will do it in two hours with two others helping him for less than $50. The American wants $70 (minimum wage) plus benefits plus one hour for lunch.

Iowans need to get a grip and work the jobs that their parents and grandparents had to work.
They won't. If they would, there would be FEW centroamericanos here. Get it?
Try this: next time you neeed some basic car work, like brakes or a new radiator, price it out at a dealership or private garage. Then shop around at your local latino work hangout and you will find that they do it for much less and the work is quality. And they do speak enough ingles for you to communicate.
“Iowa has had milk toast legislators...”
“Milk toast”? The word is Milquetoast, and it has nothing to do with sweet bread in milk and butter.

What ever happened to journalism?
Are you really a pastor?
I have no problem with illegals being “cheated” out of wages. Serves them right.
If you hadn’t pointed it out I would have.
You are so right. Much more important than anything about the article. Next time I will try to screen an article for boo-boos before posting it. My fault. I do apologize!
Ya know, there are a lot of hard working Iowans and Americans. Why you paint them all with a lazy brush is more than I can understand.
If the wife makes better burritos than the restaurants, then it’s okay for her to sell them out the back door cheaply. Right?
Finally, common damn sense on this issue. Dump welfare, dump minimum wage laws. I’d extend this to dump all payroll taxes, everything that the employer has to pay in order to hire someone.
This is WHY they hire illegals because they don’t have to pay payroll taxes, ss taxes, tax on the tax, etc. The government has given them incentives to hire illegals by taxing the legal workers.
That’s not a bad deal either. I could go with that.
