Thank you for clicking on the hyperlink and reading the actual full-length article for me (I am hesitant to routinely do so even here at Free Republic, for fear of landing at some unscrupulous website which might cause my computer to crash).
So, this means that the Federal Government is helping a State Government to collect taxes, right? Specifically, that the Federal Government is providing, to some State Governments, confidential consumer information on lawful commercial transactions which it extorted obtained from commercial enterprises located in other States? I'm aware of the Constitutionality of the Federal Government regulating interstate commerce, but one question: Does the Federal Government have a mandate to do this, or is it just being neighborly?
Regards,
Just explain to me what authority does the state of PA have to demand a company or individual in another state must become a tax collector for them. The examples you sighted were of companies doing business within the State. So my original question stands.
Could also have addressed this to “No_one_in_Particular”!
The frogs still are not “feeling the water boil”! Each day we see more taxes , fees and costs going up and we stroll merely on our way. A lot of the cost of an item is in taxes and fees to the producers and sellers, all hidden.
The obvious thing that Government is doing is not stopping smoking because it is a Pusher living on the Junkie and driving their Escalades!
There is a train WRECK coming!
In Pennsylvania, a lien means if you don’t pay the tax, they take your house. When I was involved with the local Taxpayers Association, I routinely met widows who had or were in the process of having their paid for homes taken from them and sold at a tax sale due to non payment of property taxes, which were about 6000 per year for a home that was valued at around 200000. They simply didn’t have the money.
Agh! One who supports abridging freedoms because of costs which **may** come.
I had no idea that was happening.
So much for MLK’s vision.
She should have purchasing the cigarettes from Lenny down at the trucking docks, lower price no taxes and Lenny takes care of his customers.
History may be repeating itself, with perhaps a different result this time around.
How did you infer that I support abridging freedoms? I'm merely pointing out costs that usually do come.
Actually, it is MY freedoms which are abridged when the government confiscates money from my paycheck to pay for a lifetime of disability and medical treatment for someone who is chronically ill because they exercised their freedom to destroy their lungs with cigarettes, or their liver with alcohol, or their kidneys and heart with horrible eating habits.
That said, I actually don't support having the government try to protect people from their own poor choices on matters such as this. Quite the opposite, I don't think the government should be in the business of providing health care insurance at all.
No Medicare, no medicaid. Let everyone purchase their own insurance at rates that reflect the choices they make in how they live their lives. Aren't conservatives supposed to support the idea of personal responsibility?
If it got rid of the income tax and the IRS, I'd be all for it.
But you know they would never do that.
Don't hold your breath, the vendor is only obligated to collect their own state's sales taxes. a number of years ago the state of Michigan came after me for about $1,200.00 for internet tobbacco sales. I fought it up to the last day then sent them the check. 4 days later, before they had a chance to record my payment, they sent me a penalty bill for twice the amount owed. Ultimately I didn't have to pay the penalty.
Wherever she purchased the tobacco products from, she probably paid their applicable state taxes which doesn't preclude her from paying her own state's......
The sad part about it is that the tobacco site went out of business due to all their customers getting chased down by their respective states.....
Thought I’d ping you to this thread
