Is the traditional 100-watt incandescent light bulb about to go the way of the Tyrannosaurus Rex?
Some Republicans on Capitol Hill hope not.
They want to overturn the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, signed by then-President George W. Bush. The law requires all 100-watt incandescent light bulbs to be almost 30-percent more energy efficient by Jan. 1, 2012.
Since that means higher production costs, manufacturers in America have stopped making the traditional bulbs. Some consumers have already started stockpiling the old-model bulbs, complaining that the replacements cast a unattractive light compared to the warmth of incandescent bulbs.
Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul told an administration official at a recent hearing that it's "insulting" for the government to tell consumers what light bulbs they can buy, because the government believes it “know[s] what’s best for me.”
South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint said in a statement that, "Americans are fully capable of choosing the best way to light their own homes and what best fits the needs and budget of their families ... it's clear the 'nanny state' mentality has gotten out of control in Washington."

And signed in to law by our very own republican socialist and redistributionist and chief G W Bush.
So it IS Bush’s fault.
Republicans should repeal all government interference in companies that manufacture stuff ... with the possible and careful exceptio nof safety requirements.
Leave our toilets, washing machines, all appliances, gasoline ... just get out of it.

Yep, and they have new plants in China.
Of course the absolute most efficent light source as measure by lumens per watt is high pressure sodium lamps...and you don't see greenies pushing those on the consumer. Per usual their rhetoric isn't an accurate reflection of their motives. Lighting companies have invested heavily in CFLs and are colluding with government to foist it on the consumer before they convert to LED lighting. It's really that simple.
Sylvania does as well. GE might actually be a few steps behind.
An important thing to know that was left to the very last line of the Fox News article:
The last plant that made them in the U.S. moved its light bulb operation to China in September.
So now the question is, which is more important to us as conservatives? Maintaining our ability to choose a more expensive, antiquated, foreign-made piece of technology, or pulling our collective heads out of our asses and realizing that fighting over lightbulbs is stupid.
If you don’t like the color of the new bulbs, then build a better one yourself and sell it, you’ll make a mint.

I foresee a vibrant future market for incandescent bulbs on Ebay.
Heck, I buy more than four at a clip. So far, I think I have at least two hundred bulbs. Given my age, I think I have accumulated a lifetime supply.
Good I hate the new lightbulbs. I am an unrepentant hoarder of the old ones.

I ran across this video the other day and while watching it, I suddenly realized how a small group of citizens could easily
1) shut down the federal government, 2) make the govt repeal it's mandate on these light bulbs, or 3)accomplish both objectives
If there were accidental breakages of these bulbs in key government buildings daily then they would have to shut down the affected buildings and evacuate them each time for at least a few minutes to comply with EPA regulations.
. One will wreak just as much havoc as 100 and you don’t need an assault - just Joe Shmoe dropping by his favorite govt bldg on his way home from Walmart and accidentally dropping one out of his Walmart bag. I suggest that the EPA headquarters should be high on the list of priorities for possible accidents with these bulbs.
