Policeman sues over orders to attend Islamic prayer

A Tulsa, Okla., police captain is suing his chief and the city after he was demoted and targeted by an internal investigation for refusing orders to attend an event featuring lessons in Islam, a tour and a prayer service at a mosque linked to an unindicted co-conspirator in a terror financing trial.

The legal action has been brought by attorneys with the Thomas More Law Center on behalf of Paul Fields.

Named as defendants are the city, police chief Charles W. Jordan and deputy chief Alvin Daryl Webster. WND requests for comment did not generate a response from the defendants.

At issue is a solicitation by officials in the Tulsa Police Department for officers to attend a "Law Enforcement Appreciation Day" organized by the Islamic Society of Tulsa. The invitation said the officers would be given tours of the mosque, meet the mosque's leadership, be given presentations of "beliefs, human rights, women" and "watch the 2-2:45 weekly congregational prayer service."

While at first the police administration's recommendation for attendance at the event appeared to be voluntary – there was a voluntary signup list – the law firm said when officers refused to respond, the managers made it a required event.

I think any opportunity to scope out the interior of a mosque is a good idea. Can always take a few minutes to peruse FR on the Blackberry during the “prayer service.”

Stoning and beheading demos, too?

WOW. Now if this had been a PC ordering officers to attend a Catholic Mass. Or a Sunday Baptist Service. The ACLU would be pushing each other out of the way to be the first at the Courthouse door.

That was what I would have done. When I worked at a certian prison, one of the chaplains had to supervise the muslim meetings. He took a bag of pork rinds with him and ate them while he was supervising them. It made the muslims so angry!

Yes, of course - he’s almost as good as a seeing-eye dog (grunts a lot and sometimes leaves messes, but we’re working on all of that).

I see what you are saying about the notion they are to forgo their religious views while doing their job. However, when is attending a mosque or praying to a god in their job description? From my understanding (I may be wrong) but the Muslims believe if you pray to Allah... you are essentially a new Muslim. IMHO, this is no different than taking a Jewish cop and forcing him to be baptized Catholic. I am glad this officer is suing for many reasons. The main one being that it may hinder other agencies from doing the same. I guess it always takes one case of injustice pursued to keep others safe.

“Assuming he was being paid for it, it was kind of stupid not to go”.

I disagree. To some people, their religion is important. I would not pray to another god. No matter what the price. To ask a police officer to CHOOSE between his God and his job is NOT what this Country is about. Perhaps, I should say this is NOT what our Country WAS about. I look at the road not just in front of me but way down. What is next? If you attend public school it will be mandatory to pray once to Allah, go to a public university then pray to Allah, want a county/state/federal job... you get the point.

What one needs to keep in mind is that until they are stopped, they will continue to advance.

I can’t help noticing that the ACLU has been silent on all of this. This is very telling about their agenda.

“They profess to be peaceful up until they have around 35% of a population and then they dispense with the pleasantries.”

I’m afraid the situation will need to be very bad before we as a society will respond. The left, who are loosely “American” will sound the multi-cultural trumpet until they are the last ones standing. Then, they will be converted to Islam or killed. They’ll convert and smugly tell everybody that was the plan all along. Part of the problem is a generation of identity politics that has gotten multiculturalism into law and into government contracts. Also, the taxpayer is helping Islam out. I read that Obama has given $800,000,000,000 to Hezbollah.

Regarding Islam, the religion of peace; somebody pointed out the average Nazi citizen and the average Soviet citizen were not in favor of war and did not want to destroy America. But they were the soil from which Nazism and Sovietism blossomed and, because of them, America had to deal with the results.

You totally missed the point. The officer should have only been notified of the invitation. There is no more constitutional mandate for his attendance than there is for the deprivation of any constitutional rights. The ‘management’ is wrong in this case. But, you are right; he will likely lose the case. More ‘in your face’.

Considering that Islam and Sharia law are completely at odds with EVERYTHING the left supposedly stands for, it is hard to understand what drives them to support it. My only explanation is that their hatred of America is so great that they will support any enemy of the U.S. if they think it will help destroy the country as we know it.

You may be right, but I hope you aren't. I do not believe law enforcement or others paid by the taxpayers should be required to attend any non-governmental public gathering unless it's to keep order, direct traffic or put out a fire. Why should I pay anyone to go to a party at at mosque, cathedral or synagogue. There was no request for police protection at this gathering, it was “neighborhood outreach” kind of like the NYC “cultural center” thing. Just to show what wonderful people the Muslims are.

The best way to show appreciation for law enforcement is to obey the law i.e. get your own Islamic house in order and be on the front lines in identifying and casting out those involved in terrorism.

Respectfully relictele I don't think you are fully understanding the crux of the Islamic issue. You are making the assumption that Islam is a religion. I can't blame you for that since that's been the drum beat since it's founding. Islam is a tyrannical political ideology disguised as a religion. There is no house to get in order for the house is a mirage. At the heart of Islam is the sword and freedom is the enemy to these troglodytes. Islam should be lumped in with all other anti-freedom philosophies and treated as such. Islam is just another flavor of collectivism and just as evil as any other flavor.

Who was asking him to pray? It's part of his job to observe and report, especially regarding avenues of potential threats. If his faith won't allow him to do that he shouldn't be a cop.

“Who was asking him to pray..”

Perhaps I went a little out on a limb. The article stated it involved “Islamic proselytizing” and a prayer service. My recollection of a story involving a tour of a Mosque for school children DID involve the male children to pray. It wasn’t suppose to happen but it did. His job does require investigative tools; however, this was being forced upon the officers to do as a community service act. No real law enforcement was ever mentioned. Why do you think no one volunteered for this assignment?

The difference is that America is NOT an unarmed nation like all the others they are taking over. I can easily see a woman in America having acid thrown in her face and responding with lead.
