'Al-Qaeda snatched missiles' in Libya
From correspondents in Paris From: AFP March 26, 2011 1:03PM
AL-QAEDA'S offshoot in North Africa has snatched surface-to-air missiles from an arsenal in Libya during the civil strife there, Chad's President says.
Idriss Deby Itno did not say how many surface-to-air missiles were stolen, but told the African weekly Jeune Afrique that he was "100 per cent sure" of his assertion.
"The Islamists of al-Qaeda took advantage of the pillaging of arsenals in the rebel zone to acquire arms, including surface-to-air missiles, which were then smuggled into their sanctuaries in Tenere," a desert region of the Sahara that stretches from northeast Niger to western Chad, Deby said in the interview.
"This is very serious. AQIM is becoming a genuine army, the best equipped in the region," he said.
His claim was echoed by officials in other countries in the region who said that they were worried that al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) might have acquired "heavy weapons", thanks to the insurrection.

And come to find, Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi, the 'rebel' leader, is a jihadi who fought us in Afghanstan, and is sympathetic to Al-Qaeda.
The MSM will assiduously avoid reporting all this.
wonder if there’s any gps devices onboard, we could ‘ping’ just for giggles
Why do you think he acted so quickly - not only illegally by not going through our congress - but going beyond the UN/allies okay for a "no fly"? ("No fly" doesn't mean bombing the he*l out of a country.)
The 'lives' he wanted to save? Perhaps those he's in sympathy with? Al Qaeda?
He had to act quickly to aid their escape with the weapons?
Let's see, he got Mubarak kicked out - one of our staunched allies in the ME - while everyone pooh-poohed there was any threat of the Muslim Brotherhood taking over. And if you didn't believe the hype, you could ask The Won's Muslim Brotherhood guy who is a memeber of his inner circle in the WH.
Now, it seems, the Muslim Brotherhood is poised for a good shot at taking over Egypt.
If they get Egypt and Libya - well, take a look a the map. Pretty good base to reestablish the Caliphate, eh wot?
And maybe with Tripoli as the capitol - deja vu? ARe we going to be fighting The Barbary Coast all over again?
>>>>>>>>>>Obama and Hillary have been fighting this conflict to promote Al-Qaeda. They are traitorous.>>>>>>>>>>
All that No-Fly Zone plot is just a way to prevent Duffy’s airforce bombing his own arsenals they were doing in rebel zone to stop AQ getting armed.
Plain and simple.
Arabs should stick to throwing rocks. Check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8AMj42x8dg
These are teh epople BO sent our forces to support.
So, we were wrong.
Obama does have a plan.
No surprise. The rebels and AQ probably have a lot of overlap.
oturdbowl will be happy.
Is the president of Chad and the other African leaders some of those who have been supplying mercenaries to Qadaffi? Are they just spouting the line that Q is using to try to wiggle out of his mess. Q spent a lot of time and money courting the African countries to the south of Libya with a goal of being the leader of a larger Northern African confederation. Don’t believe everything you read. Here is the latest post from AOL News, I don’t necessarily believe everything I read there either.
That's where the bombs should be falling...
Bump
Al-Qaeda is our enemy. Qadaffi had been inert, even fighting AQ over power in his country. Now, no doubt, he is pi$$ed off at the US.
The only way for us to win this one was not to play. This ain't a quagmire, it's a poop pit, and a juicy one at that.
Probably the SA-5s and 15s and other systems the Q hid in the interior so they would not be bombed...
Not to worry they already have them here and worse.
Your comments are usually just the beginning of my usual verbal rants about that (.)hole which I am sure all my neighbors are fully aware of by now.
I wonder if O will bring this up during his speech on Monday.
On FOX News this morning Norman R. Augustine the retired chairman and chief executive officer of the Lockheed Martin Corporation, the nation’s largest defense contractor, told Neal Cavuto:
“Airpower alone will not be successful and boots on ground will be needed.”
Obama: No U.S. Forces on the Ground in Libya . . . Except for Those Guys.

NPR: President Obama said Wednesday it was absolutely out of the question that U.S. ground forces would be used in Libya.
How would the president describe the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit? There is no such thing as a purely air-based combat mission; planes have problems and pilots end up on the ground, and then U.S. forces have to end up on the ground, hopefully briefly, to rescue them and bring them home safely. Ask Scott OGrady how much time you can spend on the ground while patrolling a no-fly zone.
Details on the recent rescue:
The Kearsarge then sent up two MV-22 Ospreys carrying Marine rescue teams. As they were en route, the Harriers dropped two laser-guided bombs near the crash site, apparently to keep Libyans on the ground from approaching the pilot.
With additional helicopters hovering overhead for security, one of the Ospreys landed and picked up the pilot. He was then taken aboard the Kearsarge.
The weapons systems officer was recovered by what U.S. officials described as Libyan opposition forces. He is safe, officials have said.
There are about 2,200 Marines off the shore of Libya right now. http://www.nationalreview.com/blogs/print/262910

Are U.S. Troops Already on the Ground in Libya? | OReilly Factor
Special Guests | Col. David Hunt & Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer
RET. COL. DAVID HUNT, U.S. ARMY: Yes, absolutely. Youve got British service been in there about three weeks ago and actually got captured and released. The French GIGN have been in there and our special forces and our U.S. intelligence operatives and their assets. We do not conduct operations like this, large scale air operations, without people on the ground. They have been very successful, very good, not a lot of contact with the rebels because you dont know who to talk to. But, yes, we have got intel gathering and rescue guys and special operations guys on the ground, have had them for about 12 days.
OREILLY: Now, do you agree with that, Col. Shaffer?
LT. COL. TONY SHAFFER, FORMER ARMY INTELLIGENCE OFFICER: Yes, I have heard from my sources I got a call from one of my key sources on Monday and thats exactly whats going on. Lets be really clear here. You have got to have these individuals doing what Dave just said, especially when you are talking about trying to protect, and the stated goal here, Bill, is humanitarian support. So you dont want to have weapons hitting the wrong targets. So, Dave is very good on the fact that we have special operations guys sitting there with laser designators. Bill, you saw
