NBC Universal Marketing Executive Arrested In Shooting Death Of Friend

An NBCUniversal marketing executive arrested in the shooting death of friend and colleague was free on $1 million bail today.

David Andrew Amstrong, was charged with murder Thursday in the March 18 shooting death of Brian Russell Kaplon, 32, a digital distribution executive with NBCUniversal.

Kaplon died from at least one shot to the chest, fired from an AR-15, a semiautomatic, civilian version of a U.S. military's M16. Most fire .223-caliber bullets.

The shooting happened in the garage of Amstrong's Porter Ranch home in 20000 block of Vercelli Way about 12:45 a.m., after both men allegedly had been drinking at a St. Patrick's Day party at Armstrong's.

Authorities said Armstrong kept a collection of guns in the garage.

There were no witnesses to the shooting, and it was unclear what Armstrong may have told detectives.

Court papers say filed Thursday say Armstrong "personally and intentionally discharged a firearm ... which caused great bodily injury and death to Brian Kaplon."

Armstrong, 32, is due in court April 12. It was unclear if he had a permit for the weapon, which is considered an assault rifle under California law.

An attorney for Armstrong said the shooting was accidental.

"There was no intent ever to harm his best friend. This was an accident based on two friends who were drinking and not following the proper safety precautions in the handling of a rifle," James Blatt told the Los Angeles Times.

He said called 911 after the shooting and tried to save Kaplon.

Kaplon was married with a child and twins due in May.

Blatt said the two families were close.

"They were best friends since fifth grade. They were like brothers. Wives were very close. Each family was an integral part of the other family's life."

I hate it when you have to shoot a friend.

These things unfortunatunatly happen.

If a true friend, they understand.

As a citizen of a gun loving state, I find it interesting that someone in a gun hating state like CA has access to one of those. Especially a leftist Commie working for NBCObama. Very Interesting.

ROTFLMAFO!

It would be fun to see what happens when a hot casing goes down the shirt of one of the guys sitting next to one of those guys!

Hilarious. It reminded me of a few 4th of July episodes I had except we were listening to Steely Dan and dropping 1/4 sticks all over the place. The same mindless giggling did occur as well.

Who wouldn’t get giddy unloading a full clip on an AK. I don’t blame them.

I knew a guy down the street that kept a really big gun safe in his very nice garage at his very nice house. I am not sure if he had an insulated garage door but better to put the safe in the house.

Looks like media libs can get guns in CA that the peons cannot get. They were drunk and fooling around with his gun collection? That always works out well.

Shocking as it is for the press to get something about guns correct, they did manage to get this one right... Most DO fire .223 caliber bullets (they even got this part right), although some fire the 6.8mm, as well as other cartridges.

Gunhandling has never been a traditional St. Patrick’s Day activity for good reason I suppose.
