**New Jersey Transit train hits car with two women inside**
Based on the headline it sounds like it was the trains fault.

Never bring a car to a train fight.

Yes, it’s never the train’s fault.

Too bad it wasn't a Volt. Did they swerve to avoid a baby duck?

“The Nissan Maxima apparently entered the Main Street railroad crossing at about 7:35 a.m. as the train was passing through, he said, breaking a safety gate. The gates were down and flashing lights, and bells were operating...”
In the drivers manual I read that means don’t try to cross the train tracks at this moment.
Wonder if someone was on the cell phone? What? Could it be any more obvious?

NJT? They rarely move over 15 mph.

Based on the headline I can't tell whether the 2 women were in the car, or in the train. Journalists are idiots. But we knew that.

According to the article the driver was elderly, and Chinese, so it’s a terrible driver two-fer. :)

it was, he should have swerved

The driver and passenger were both 77 years old. So they appear to have had a senior moment that may involve being hard of hearing among other things. They are both very fortunate they weren’t crushed. Needless to say if you don’t notice a RR gate, lights and bell, you probably ought not to be driving.
