Terri Schiavo’s Family Sponsors Symposium on End of Life Issues
Life News ^ | 3/28/11 | Steven Ertelt

Posted on 03/28/2011 10:45:49 AM PDT by wagglebee

The family of Terri Schiavo, through their Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network, will present a symposium on end-of-life issues before a special Mass to remember and honor the life of the disabled woman.

The mass, which will be held at Ave Maria University, a Florida-based Catholic college, will mark the anniversary of the death of the woman who rose to international attend when her husband sought and won permission from a court to take her life via a painful 13-day starvation and dehydration death.

The symposium, entitled The Erosion of Medical Ethics, will be held on March 31 and Bobby Schindler, Terri’s brother and the director of the foundation bearing her name that tries to help disabled patients and their families, will be moderating the panel and also discuss how the removal of food and water to the cognitively disabled occurs daily in our society.

“With health care rationing on the rise, it is crucial to educate our future attorneys on the moral and legal understandings as it relates to basic healthcare needs such as food and water,” he said. “In the future, these are the very men and women who will be essential to protecting the rights of the cognitively disabled, the elderly and medically dependent.”

He told LifeNews.com, “It is our hope that upon graduation they will be part of our Network of lawyers who fight for the lives of our vulnerable brothers and sisters.”

Speakers include Brother Paul O’Donnell, Dr. Mark Mostert, Kristan Hawkins and Professor Richard Myers. They will discuss Catholic Church teaching as it relates to hydration and nutrition; historical prejudice to people with disabilities; health care and its potential effects on special needs patients; and the legal aspects of the Terri Schiavo case. The symposium is open to law students and faculty of Ave Maria School of Law.

Following the symposium Ave Maria University will host the “The National Mass for Terri’s Day” at the Ave Maria Oratory, located near Naples, Florida. The International Day of Prayer and Remembrance for Terri Schindler Schiavo, and All of Our Vulnerable Brothers and Sisters (“Terri’s Day”) was established in 2007 and is observed each year on March 31, the date of Terri’s death. Father Frank Pavone, the director of Priests for Life, will join again this year as the main celebrant for the event.

The purpose of this day is to foster education, prayer, and activism regarding discrimination against the cognitively disabled, and advocacy for people in situations similar to what Terri and her family faced. 40 Days for Life, a community-based campaign that over a period of 40 days attempts to transform individuals and communities to recognize the value and dignity of human life, will be observing “Terri’s Day” with prayer along with countless others who will be remembering Terri on this day.

The family is also sponsoring a fundraising concert in Ohio in June featuring the Beach Boys.

Did you read my entire post? I was talking about money wasn’t I? Did I have to add who pays for what at the end of my statements?

Take a look at the picture in post 17, it's ALWAYS been about money. Abortion is about money too (you will almost never see an abortuary in an affluent part of town).

The left realizes that their best chance at pushing death will ALWAYS be to make it about money.

That happened to me too. I finally realized the pro-life was more than anti-abortion.

Thank you for your service, and I hope your retirement goes really well for you. :-)

The two issues are really the same. Regardless of where we are in our lives, whether in the womb or further along the way, being pro-life should be a consistent belief and corresponding action. If we approached abortion as some have approached end of life issues, we would ask first what economic repercussions saving an unborn child would have. " What if the mother can't afford the baby ?" would be as important as "Who's going to pay for the hospital stay?" for someone like Terri Schiavo, or for baby Joseph.

One is either pro-life, or one is not.

lol. It is ugly anyway, just like my attitude tonight. I sincerely apologize to you and wagglebee. I hate when I get this way. It even makes things worse. You know I used to upset people like crazy with homeschool....I used to think it was a complete waste of time and folks didn’t take it seriously. However, I received three Sailors who proved to me that I was 100 percent wrong and now I am a proponent big time. Trust me Wintertime used to “hate” me like you could not believe. It took me seeing the process of homeschool and it working to get me out of my ignorant nonsense. Same with Sarah Palin, in 2009, I was a complete idiot with my negativity, but I studied and learned from FREEPERS about the truth of Sarah Palin and now I would love her to be President and I am a cheerleader too.....just ask “Oynx” She would be on my butt constantly about my stupidity. lol. Well to me this “older” folks getting murdered is relatively new and this just proves that I am ignorant about the subject and will get my act together. The process for me on Free Republic has been so positive that I just can’t say well I am not worthy of this site because the knowledge I have gained on here would make your hair stand up on your head. It is incredible. Yes I know I made you so mad tonight but I just think that after 5 years I have gained more than not. So now that I have babbled on and on, I seriously must get to bed. lol. The CO won’t be happy if I am late especially if the Sailors are there and I come strolling in after 6 o’clock (am).

There have been Freepers posting about their parents and THEM being denied procedures already. It's going to get ugly!

Goodnight.

I don’t think that any of us could have predicted this change in our treatment of the elderly and disabled, and certainly not a change in such a short time. It’s staggering.

Did you see from les that a corporation is using aborted fetal cells for food taste testing as an additive for flavoring?

Terri won over a MILLION dollars. That was supposed to be for her therapy and care. Where did it go? To pay for DEATH ATTORNEYS to kill her. Terri was murdered with her OWN MONEY. Tell that to your troll. The money argument doesn't work when someone with money (many times) is murdered by their spouse or their children.

People are killed for their money and with their own money.

REMEMBRANCE of EASTER 2005

Crowd my eyes, you bevies of daffodils,
And you forsythias in throngs of cheer,
Dandelion galaxies and fountains of trees.
Fill my mouth with the breath of hyacinths, you purple air
And you roistering breeze.

And you quince-buds so eager, you swelling seeds,
You squirrels running stitches across the loom
Of woven grasses, inflorescent weeds;
Jasmine-bush, loop me with your lariats of perfume.
Fill me, small birds, with your versicles,
And chuckled replies.

She is bleeding from the mouth and eyes.
Sate me then, Sun, all dapple and spangle
Crowd out all else
Lade me and load me, you skies
With blessings of warmth and breath
Let me see nothing else
But everything springing and skyey.

From the mouth and eyes.

for Terri Schindler Schiavo

I’ll never forget Terri, her family, nor those few who were willing to stand up for her and speak for her when she could not do it for herself.
