His mother was born in Scotland, then became a naturalized U.S. Citizen in 1942. Trump was born in 1946, ergo, BOTH his parents were citizens at the time of his birth.

He is natural born - jus soli + jus sanguis.

Donald Trump learned the hard way this week that if you're going to call on the president to release his official birth certificate, you'd better do the same.

Trump, who has been putting pressure on 0bama lately to make public his long-form birth certificate from Hawaii, decided to set a good example and release his own on Monday. Only problem was, the certificate that Trump provided to the conservative Website Newsmax wasn't his actual birth certificate, but rather a "hospital certificate of birth."

On Tuesday, Trump, who is contemplating a presidential run in 2012, sought to correct the oversight, providing a copy of his official birth certificate issued by the New York City Department of Health to ABC News.

I think you are correct. An innocent looking (albeit intentional) misstep creates more publicity and keeps the matter in the news longer.

He might even have been hoping for a liberal to make an issue of it.

Trump has much (MUCH) experience manipulating public opinion. That's a major part of a successful real estate developer's repertoire. He has been doing it successfully since before Obama was even out of high school.

I would have thought that Donald would have let this brew a little longer to see how many pundits would come out of the woodwork and trash his initial birth certificate. Or exclaim again that he does not qualify since his mother was not born in this country.

What a hoot! BAM he slams down the long form birth certificate in two days! It’s funny because it was extremely easy for me to get my daughters about 6 months ago when she had to apply for her permit. I think it cost me $8.00 or $10.00 for this notarized copy of her birth. Imagine that!

I can’t wait to see what else he has up his sleeve! I wonder if he is getting pissed at the response from the white house on this matter - or for that matter our lame stream media. I hope this is an eye opener for him seeing the total assault on the Patriots of this country!

Of course Trump planned this out in this way. ABC took the bait and now they look stupid (is that redundant?). Trump has a lot of baggage and I don't think I want him as president. Although he would be a damn site better than Obama. But Trump does love the country and he's much smarter than Obama. I don't know if his autocratic style would fit with the presidency but at least the guy understands business and is a patriot.

Trump is natural born in every sense of the word. His mother naturalized at least 4 years prior to Donald being born. 2 US citizens owing allegiance to no other country. Child born in New York! Qualifies as Natural Born!

It is amazing that the media new the difference between the two types of birth documents in Donald’s case but it utterly is clueless when it comes to Obama. It would be nice if we actually had journalists in this country and not just courtiers.

Mother: Mary Ann MacLeod, born May 10, 1912 in SCOTLAND, died August 7, 2000 in Queeens, NY. Arrived in US October 5, 1935. Married January 1936. Naturalized as a US Citizen March 10, 1942.

1946 comes AFTER 1942, which means his mother was indeed a Citizen at the time of his birth which, in turn, means that Donald Trump is a natural born citizen.
