Obama Rule Review Leaves Some Nervous, Skeptical

WASHINGTON In a city that loves to argue over what next to add to the government's already fat rulebook, there's a big push to rethink what's already there.
All across town, agencies are holding hearings, scouring specs, setting up websites and assembling plans to carry out President Barack Obama's order for a "retrospective review" of decade upon decade of government regulations.
The hunt is on for rules that are to pull a few words from the order itself excessively burdensome, redundant, inconsistent, overlapping, outmoded, ineffective, insufficient. Or, as the president put it, "just plain dumb."
Regulations translate laws into action, and touch all aspects of American life.
There are rules on how to keep water clean and how much water should be used to flush a toilet; for how much gas cars can guzzle, and under one now in the works for rear-view cameras or sensors to keep drivers from backing over toddlers; for how to build commercial airplanes right down to their nuts and bolts and for how to launch amateur model rockets.
Obama's pledge to put the federal rulebook under a microscope has conservatives clamoring for him to rip up pages of red tape, yet skeptical he will deliver. Liberals increasingly worry that the Obama administration will bow to political pressure and weaken or scrap important health, safety and environmental protections.
The notion that there are reams of "dumb" rules ripe for the taking is rejected by experts on federal regulation. They say any easy targets already were eliminated by past administrations that made their own runs at over-regulation.

"At the center of this mammoth undertaking is Cass Sunstein, Obama's regulatory chief, who says the debate over whether the government has too many regulations misses the point.
When these morons “simplified” the tax code they added hundreds of pages to it. Whe they’re done we’ll have a book of rules on how to eliminate rules that will be so complex that it will be impossible to eliminate rules.
By using the regulatory rules process Obama is pushing an agenda that could not pass Congress. Cap and trade and even more draconian environmental policies are for example being pushed under the radar by the EPA.
You are dead on!
This cannot be good!
This sounds good on the surface, but Barry isn’t a leader. He is a fraud who rules by committees and czars. Imagine the mess they could make.
Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Food Safety Act, for starters.
We have to stop giving enviros and activist groups unlimited access to petition the system to get ridiculous standards the yield marginal returns for trillions in costs to businesses and citizens.
We need to change the laws so that any attempt to ‘improve’ things must be weighed against the cost and what it will do to the economy.
We need to up the standards to make sure all regs are founded on solid science. The standards must become more stringent the more pristine you try to make things, in order to justify the cost of the standards on the economy.
Congress needs to OK all major changes in regulations plus anything new that is regulated, like CO2.
The REAL reason for the review is to see if there are any regulations they’ve forgotten about which, if enforced, would further damage capitalism.
Exactly! They are looking for anything they missed!
He is a fraud. He is a poor leader who is basicly told what to do by advisors, each of whom have there own agenda. Obamacare is not really Obama's Health Care Law! It is a conglomurate of all the leftist wish lists. But I do love to pin that tail on that annointed donkey.
Sunstein-— what does he mean by “RIGHT” Right for whom? the progressivist communist totalitarian agenda? THOSE rules would be preserved to expedite the takeover of the statists.
Get it “right” indeed. Re-align the power structures, the bureaucracy. About which see— the “peoples commisariats”
God Save US!!
