US leadership lapse in quran burning
The US Report ^ | 4 April 2011 | Kay Day

Posted on 04/04/2011 10:53:56 AM PDT by Crush

Many of us in the U.S., regardless of our faith, viewed with despair the Quran-burning pastor’s actions —we knew innocents would likely die. President Barack Obama and others have spoken about the pastor, in the fall when he first threatened the burning and recently after he carried through with it.

There is however a lapse in US leadership regarding appropriate responses to the burning. The lapse creates a dangerous window that should concern all Americans.

The Bill of Rights addresses the issue of faith and free expression in Amendment I:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

President Barack Obama first spoke in September about the pastor with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, former aide to a Democrat in the White House. Obama said, “This country has been built on the notions of religious freedom and religious tolerance…”

Obama rightly said the preacher’s burning of the Quran would be a “destructive act” and “a recruitment bonanza for al Qaeda.” The leader of the free world also said, “We are a government of laws and we have to abide by those laws…”

Others at the pinnacle of the American body politic weighed in. In September, 2010, after the first threats to burn the holy book were made, Stephanopoulos interviewed Stephen G. Breyer, associate justice in the US Supreme Court.

Stephanopoulos wrote: “But Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer told me on ‘GMA’ that he's not prepared to conclude that -- in the internet age -- the First Amendment condones Koran burning…’Holmes said it doesn’t mean ...

So what does killing someone for burning a book show?

So.. what do you think a leftist would say if you asked them if they thought Islam was “tolerant”?

Some would say “yes”, knowing they were lying,
and some would say “yes”, NOT knowing any different...

which always comes down to the question, when dealing with leftists -

are they stupid or evil? More the latter than anything else.

>> Burning books only shows one’s ignorance.

I agree - better to recycle.

I would prefer to use the Koran as a target to test various personal defense pistol ammunition. YMMV.

“This country has been built on the notions of religious freedom and religious tolerance…”

The liberals showed the way in deliberate descration of religious symbols and called it art, and even celebrated it. For the government to now step in and protect only Islamic symbols is as close to the establishment of religion as anything it’s done in decades. The rule of law is in serious jeopardy in this country; we have elected politicians and judges who haven’t any understanding of how it works, and without the character or courage to administer it.

same ignorance shown by Nazis burning Thomas Mann, Einstein,
other books, plays, art, by ‘degenerates’.

FR is beginning to sound like a Nazi rally with all this
anti Quran, anti Islam, invective.

Islam is not exactly my favorite religion, but I must call attention to the same first amendment that allows the pastor
to burn his Quran also allows Muslims the right to practice their faith, a right I see attacked here on a regular basis.

"Burning books only shows one’s ignorance."

Killing people because a book was burned only shows you are evil.

absolutely the persons who did the killing performed an evil act. I am sure that most muslim (my colleagues here at MS) I know abhor such behavior.

Again, ignorance of what? What are any of those, or the Koran burner, ignorant of? You can’t answer the question, thus showing the absurdity of your original statement.

If by 'the right to practice their faith', you mean that they have the right to murder infidels, I most wholeheartedly disagree with you. I don't care what a Muslim does to 'practice his faith' until it involves slaughtering non-believers (from their point of view). That is where I draw the line. Their 'Holy Book' promulgates this view. There have been dozens of incidences of this war with non-believers since at least the 1972 Munich Olympics. I don't care if you want to call it a religion or not, it involves hatred and murder. Listen to what they say about Jews.

You have a right to publish a book, and I have a right to burn it, whether you think it is ignorant or not. And I can't think of a better candidate for combustion than this one.

With respect to the soldiers overseas-in fact due to that respect, I think it is high time we deal with this enemy- MUSLIMS all MUSLIMS to be clear. Blow the lid of this PC BS, pound them all into the ground and tell the “peaceful” muslims living here to start playing by the rules.

I am not an ignorant or bigoted person in life-although I am sure someone will take exception with that claim based on my above statements. However, I readily admit I do not trust a single muslim as caring for me or our way of life while I am suppose to walk on eggshells for them.

BUMP!

The pastor burned the koran to highlight the fact that islam is a murderous cult, so muslims kill more people, to prove him wrong?

Scratchy I don't mind so much. I'm 62 years old and have been getting buggered by the Government on taxes since I was 14 years old - so it's (the old chute) is pretty tough.

The wife, though, just hates trying to "Shout it Out" the black ink stains in my drawers.......

Having thought about this a looooooong time, I have a different alternative. While I cannot deny the existence of the truly evil (think Pelosi), most are not really stupid, IMO. What they are is fools.

Burning books only shows one’s ignorance.

And how about a Crucifix in urine? What does that show?

Yet no Christians ever killed anyone because of it.

People can burn all of the books they want to. If they belong to them.
