I am a latecomer to the BBC TV show “Top Gear” and they have several episodes of the Veyron vs. other supercars.
the engineering is WAY over the top. These cars are for the ultimate in performance, the ultimate of everything.
Quite frankly if I had one I would keep it in a nitrogen filled airtight container and never drive it.
Unlike some some rich sheik that let a whole collection just rot and rust.
They say the depreciation is over $2,000 a week on these. Or something like $40,000 after one block of driving.
It was a 1987 1/2 model.
The re-design was late so it was introduced mid-year.
I wish it was one of the 90’s models. those things were pretty serious. (kind of ugly though)
Watch the video I posted at 43.
The owner lives in our area. We were at dinner one night and he was seated at the booth behind ours. I overheard him telling his friend that he was texting when he crashed. The news reports said he claimed he was distracted by a “low flying pelican.”
Downhill.
With a 25-mph tailwind.
The wind off the lakes was brutal.
...oh, we're talking cars. never mind...
Cheers!
A very fast auto.
Indeed, the 90s Supra Turbo could do 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, which is impressive even today.
But the 87-88 Supra Turbo was utterly beautiful, especially with the targa roof.
The 1987 was far more beautiful than the 1989. They ruined it in 1989. I don’t know why.
You had it great. I’m glad you lived.
A friend of mine took a Z3 to 130 on i-5, and lived. He also took it to 100 on an LA street. I can’t imagine how the cops felt when they saw him “streak” past.
WTF it looks intentional.
I once caught a ride home from high school on the back of a friend’s Honda 450 back in the ‘70s. He promptly accelerated past 100 MPH. In a school zone. The kids walking down the sidewalk looked like a picket fence.
The friend became a world famous motorcycle road racer.
I can recall, many many years ago, hitting a little over 150 MPH in a 1987 Volvo 740 turbocharged station wagon. It was shaking like hell, and I backed off, but the engine was still pulling......I miss that car from time to time.
Topping out at 258 mph, the car would probably self destruct if anyone tried to push it on our roads here in Michigan.
Does anyone know what the highway conditions are like in Europe?
So what kind of a sound system does it have and how does it do in 6 inches of snow?
That grill with the red dot makes me think of cylons. Hopefully that red dot doesn’t move back and forth while the car talks.
That’s what I thought too! (Well, without the WT*);-) Did you see post#14?
gallons to the mile ....
I stand corrected! I’m sure the people at Shelby SSC are plotting how to make Ultimate Aero even faster. ;)
110 mph on a Honda CX 500 with a full fairing. She started to fly by the time I shut her down.
