RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- A group of religious non-believers at Fort Bragg is pushing for the U.S. military to make sure they get the same treatment as religious groups.
Soldiers at the post have filed paperwork seeking recognition for their group, called Military Atheists and Secular Humanists. They want to hold meetings at the base, work with the Army's chaplains and have their gatherings listed in a bulletin of religious services.

But would any of the 3 atheist marines that you know allow themselves to be used as a tool of some anti-religion group by filing papers to try to force the USMC to recognize an Athiest group alongside other religious groups and get athiest "chaplains" to lead them in their athiestic religious observations and ceremonies? At the risk of speaking for the KG9 Kid, from the context of his post I inferred that he was asserting that this type of activity -- not one's choice to be an athiest -- is the type of thing that would get you an ass-whupping in the Marines.

I’m really surprised that more prominent people don’t point this out about the “atheists” and secular humanists. They don’t hate on any of the other religions in the world except Christ followers primarily, and the chosen people of God (Jews) secondarily.
There really are only two sides in the cosmic battle,

Goes back to a Christian based concert a few months back. The Military OKed it and it was held - funded by donations.
The Atheists got all bent out of shape and said they wanted their own concert - the Military said fine go ahead - and the concert fell through for lack of funding.
Ever since then the Atheists have been all bent out of shape wanting the Post to OK it - and fund it.
Agree 100%. I was in the Air Force with a guy like this. He'd mock Christians, destroy fliers, etc..., and then call himself smart for eschewing God.
This was almost 25 years ago. I caught up with him about a year ago on Facebook. He's still the same petty juvenile he was then. Same snarky comments, same disdain.
I asked him if he was so willing to mock other religions in public (Islam, in particular). No dice, they're different.
Pathetic.
I so mean to express that a Marine petitioning for his Atheist club on some US Navy bulletin board at the chapel is going to get squared away like a big dog.
The term "freethinker," in this context, is centuries old.
This is just another part of the DADT bull**** timebomb getting ready to go off and destroy our military. If it is important for these maggots to be recognized as being a bunch of godless bastards, this old dogface feels they should go look somewhere else to find that recognition. Try the Nobel committee. I’m sure the military will survive without them being in the racks. I’d be willing to bet a dollar to a donut that 99.9% of this crowd are homosexuals and pedophiles anyway. Flame away!
Meeting?? What do they want to meet about—nothing? Sounds like they want a religious service to me.
I thought it was universally accepted that April 1 (April fools day) was their day.

When I went in the Navy in 1969 there was one guy who had “no preference” put on his dog tag. None of us bugged him about it but the Company Commander did not particularly approve. Plus, when we had the chance to go home at Christmas or stay in the barracks, he was the only one who chose to stay. This meant the CC had to stay, too. He was one pissed off First Class Petty Officer. To him the %$^^*($ @@@$$#$%% atheist made him work on Christmas!
Reminds me of a story about Jerry Lee Lewis told to me by his first drummer. They were all on a bus out in the middle of nowhere at about 3 in the morning when one of the men on the bus said he was an atheist. Jerry Lee kicked him off the bus.
They want to work with the chaplains???? Chaplains are clergymen who by definition are religious. What stupidity.
Someone who hates the military (and America) is likely behind this.

“So help me God”, in the oath does it mean we must kill for God? Well we kill for politics, economics, race and geography so its just another reason to have a war? We have an all volunteer military, and we have PC controlling it, and you are worried about atheists? If we put soldiers of different religious in a foxhole together, wouldn’t the atheist fight harder to stay alive? Atheist does not mean they are bad people because they do not believe. Its that they do not believe in what you believe. Religious “indoctrination” did not take for what ever reason. The official religion of the USA is what??? The official language of the USA is what? Get the picture? We are free to believe what ever we want to. Thank Odin! :o)
