FAIRLESS Hills, PA At an event at a Spanish windmill firm in Pennsylvania, President Obama suggested Americans consider selling their gas guzzlers for more fuel efficient cars. The president chided one questioner, saying: "If you're complaining about the price of gas and you're only getting 8 miles a gallon, you know, you might want to think about a trade-in."

The Associated Press reported that Mr. Obama made the comment "laughingly." However, the quote has been scrubbed from the original linked page.

Fortunately, Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit captured a screenshot:

That car is now 6 to 10 years old with 70k to 150k miles on the odometer. It is the perfect car for the person who doesn’t have a lot of money or access to credit.

Well, thanks to Obama he is implementing a plan that will hurt the blue-collar workers, newly licensed kids, and others, who may not view the ownership of an expensive car as a priority. In addition, someone owning a 10-year old Toyota will not have to pay sky-high automobile insurance premiums since they will probably take out cheaper policies that only cover liability.

The Speed channel show “Rides” with Stacey David had a blurb about what a stupid program the “Cash for Clunkers” program was. It detailed every single economic ill effect it created, and there were a bunch of them, from junkyards deprived of income to mechanics and auto parts stores deprived of income, to people who couldn’t buy affordable used cars because of it.

Clunkers had to be destroyed. That reduced by that many the number of used cars that were available for sale. When supply goes down, cost goes up.

Yeah, I know they spell “tires” with a Y in Great Britain; it’s still weird to see that spelling for tires on the ‘.S. president’s Cadillac limo.

He’s already given lawyers an even worse name. Now he’s giving used car salesmen an even worse name.

Another way to put it:

Citizen: “Mr. President, we can’t afford food!”

‘bam: ‘Well, you need to buy a new stove.’

Citizen: “Mr. President, we can’t afford food!”
Obama: “Don’t worry, it still tastes the same.”

A 10,000# RV would get around 8 mpg.

Notice they don’t mention the weight. I think the Prezmobile gets more like 4 or 5 mpg.

I didn’t have an anemometer on me but my impression was that this was the “normal” onshore wind pattern in this area.
I’d guess about 20/25mph steady winds.

All the vegetation is leaned over to the leeward direction.

Exactly. I know more people complaining about the cost to fill up a small fuel efficient car than a truck or SUV owner who gets 15-20 MPG. Obama is out of touch, even for his constituents.

I know officially the “clunkers” were destroyed, however I refuse to believe that many did not end up in Mexico or somewhere out of country.

The only problem is in Obama’s hypocrisy.

The only THING we need to TRADE IN, is our PRESIDENT.

Too much windspeed will damage windmills, so they have a build in "self-protect device" that changes the pitch on the blades so they can't spin, or even a brake so they don't destroy themselves by spinning too fast (and causing damage) in high winds.

TRUE. Those THIN LONG BLADES cannot spin very fast.

Now, here is something that doesn't take up much space, doesn't matter which way the wind is blowing, can deal with shifting winds, doesn't matter how FAST the wind is blowing, DOESN'T MAKE A THUMPING SOUNDS, and is actually FUN to watch SPIN.

Spanish Windmill firm?

The Don Quixote tilting at windmills analogies should be endless.

“and so, to sum it all up,I perceive everything I say as absolutely true, and deficient in nothing whatever, and paint it all in mind exactly as I want it to be.”

I think with too many people laid off for an extended amount of time the credit unions won’t give them the green light to buy a new car.
I know two years ago I almost was unable to buy a new motorcycle because I was only working 6 months a year as a seasonal construction worker.
