Glenn Beck Departs, Media Matters Plots New Targets [Beck,O'Reilly,Hannity Ratings Top Rivals]

The left-leaning watchdog group, which has pressured advertisers to yank support of conservative media personalities, ranks Andrew Breitbart, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and others in separate "tiers" of influence, beliefs and reach.

Now that Media Matters has declared victory over Glenn Beck, what's next on its agenda? Getting Donald Trump to stop questioning where President Obama was born, perhaps, or maybe convincing advertisers to yank their support of another show on Fox News Channel. Maybe the left-leaning watchdog group will step up its campaign against online entrepreneur Andrew Breitbart.

Whoever takes Beck's time slot when he ends his Fox News Channel show this year will be an instant target of the group.

"We monitor Beck's 5 p.m. show on Fox. Whoever is in at 5 p.m., we're still going to monitor," said executive vp Ari Rabin-Havt, the No. 2 executive at Media Matters. "The likelihood is whoever is on at 5 p.m. is going to be a source of conservative misinformation."

Media Matters isn't spilling its exact agenda, acknowledging only there are "discussions" concerning Trump, Breitbart and others on an ongoing basis. But the advertising gambit -- which worked so well against Beck by discouraging most big brands to avoid his TV show -- is a tactic the group likes to use sparingly.

Besides the campaign against Beck, Media Matters has only targeted advertisers on two other occasions in the past two years, and was successful both times: when Dr. Laura Schlessinger used the N-word in a rant against political correctness on her former radio show and against Lou Dobbs while on CNN because of his stance on illegal immigration and his status as a "birther."

Rabin-Havt says there are internal discussions about launching another campaign to get advertisers to boycott a show, though he wouldn't name names.

"-- the talk-radio jihad against big government that has put gutless Democrats so on the defensive that they no longer fight to protect vital programs but only over whether to agree to "steep" spending cuts or "draconian" ones, or the fear-mongering on terrorism and Gitmo that made quivering members of Congress afraid to house terror suspects in our supermax prisons. Don't think that Beck's nightly burst of insanity didn't have a lot to do with these things, because they did."

As was the case last week, Fox News Channel was the only one of the cable news channels to rank among the top 10 cable networks in primetime and total day. FNC placed third in prime behind USA Network and history, and sixth in total day behind Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, USA, Adult Swim and TNT.

CNN meanwhile continued to drop, after having a successful run near the top of the charts when Japan was the big story. CNN placed 29th in primetime and 25th in total day. This the third straight week that CNN has dropped in total day, and second consecutive week in prime.

MSNBC remained stable, finishing 26th in primetime and 29th in total day.

How do we go about “targeting” Media Matters in return?

If in fact Ailes caved due to lack of advertising revenue, shame on him. Even more shame on the Advertisers that pulled out. I’d like to know whom these Advertisers are so I can boycott them.

These clowns (Fecal matters) claiming credit for Beck “departing” are in for a nasty surprise. Both FOX and Beck are saying that he is only ending the daily show to concentrate on other projects for FOX. Beck himself said very early on that he didn’t intend to do the daily show for long.

My guess is more focused expose type specials.

Beck really is not that big of a win for “Fecal Matters” (good one Cripple Creek) since Beck was losing a lot of support from conservatives over his attacks on Birthers.

Also, Beck makes more money off his radio show than he ever did on TV, so his main money source is still around

Lets see Fecal Matters go after Rush Limbaugh. Fecal Matters will be history if they go after Rush....the stations who carry his show will wipe Fecal Matters out. Don’t mess with 500+ stations bread and butter

Actually I wouldn’t mind them targeting Ted Baxter for a while - be nice to see BOR reap the benefits of kissing up to the left.

I don’t think Ailes caved. Beck hasn’t wanted this show for a while. It was never the show he really wanted to do anyway. If Ailes had caved, Beck would be gone but Beck is still with FNC and will be producing other shows for them.

With 2.2 million average daily viewers its pretty doubtful that ad revenue has anything to do with it.

Easy, don’t watch one second of the liberal mainstream media.
Advertise all you want with the lib media.
But we are’nt watching it.
By the way, I don’t watch Hannity for the advertisers.

BINGO!

Beck is better at taking on specific topics as special programs.

The “daily” show format doesn’t suit him.

Yesterday he said liberals will find Jesus just so they have someone to pray to that Glenn would go back to the daily format.

He’s shown again and again that he’s a real pro at getting liberals to think they are walking him into a trap only to find themselves stuck. The boiling frog incident was a good example of him setting the left up for outrage.

He accidentally dropped a live frog into a pot of boiling water and liberals went off the rails with outrage. The next day he showed the pre production version of the segment where he clearly traded the live frog for a fake one which he pretended got away and went into the pot. The message he gave was “Don’t believe everything you see”.

Anybody that believes media Matters got rid of Beck or can force Fox to fire its money makers is crazy as hell.

It goes without saying that the leftist media would want to take credit for this. Unfortunately for them, the majority of us KNOW it had nothing to do with them.

As for advertisers like Progressive, Lawyers.com and ConAgra....would they advertise on Beck anyway? Not likely.

Exactly my thoughts. There is nothing to prove that MM had anything to do with the closing of this show. Typical...

If they did, Rush Limbaugh would be screaming bloody murder over it. Limbaugh’s sense of fairness would not let it stand.

After all, he came to the defense of Bill Maher when ABC pulled a show out from under him for saying something stupid.

The silence on the right indicates that things are not as they appear.

Beck has been targeting this George Soros financed smear group, as has as Rush.. MediaResearch.org or NewsBusters do their share.

http://articles.latimes.com/2011/mar/31/business/la-fi-ct-james-murdoch-20110331 Is James Murdoch the heir apparent at News Corp.? 3 page report.

..—shake up in Command and Acquisitions?

On Beck's radio spot his 2 cronies are going to spill all next week via their radio show they said on Friday..anger was expressed on what was being reported. Beck stayed quiet. Beck said he would not read the newspapers. Being the capitalist he is, the full report would be on his Insider subscription page as it all comes about. Beck added “I am giving you something for your money”; not just taking your money he assured potential subscribers.

The radio show is on regardless. The TV spot is at a bad time frame as the old crowd have their spots locked down.

Will Megyn Kelly take over the old spot..who's on first, who's on second?

A real cliffhanger..makes people watch to find out. Other top people are leaving the other old MSM networks as well. Beck has certianly upset the powers that be in Washington and people have gotten fired over his research and discovery gone public. One thing is Beck won't disappear, he has too much money and influence now. Who knows maybe he will run for President. Hey Trump is..and who would have thought it before the ongoing crisis in leadership under Obama.
