As the esteemed Ivy League university that taught five US presidents, 18 Nobel laureates and countless captains of industry, Yale has one of the loftiest names in education.
But the £25,000-a-year alma mater of Bill Clinton and both George Bushes has been plunged into a sexual harassment scandal that threatens to drag its reputation through the mud.
The US government has launched an investigation into complaints by 16 students at the Connecticut college. They allege a string of serious assaults and rampages by gangs of men that went unpunished.
Yale's management has allowed the cultivation of a "sexually hostile environment", in which misogyny flourishes and sexual attacks on young women are frequent, they claim.
Now the university's £300 million-a-year public funding could be in jeopardy if the Obama administration finds it broke a law dictating everyone must have equal access to education.
The Yale complaint's most serious charges – concerning the sexual assaults of several girls – have not been made public to protect the victims' identities.
Led by Hannah Zeavin, 20, the complainants say the "band of loud men shouting threatening and pornographic language" terrified teenage girls who had just arrived for their first year.
Doug Lanpher, the head of DKE, said the incident was "inappropriate". Raucous "pledging" activities – which in the 1960s saw George W. Bush brand new boys' backsides with a red-hot poker – were postponed.
But no one involved was blocked from joining. "It's behind us now," Mr Lanpher told The Daily Telegraph. "People see the film 'Animal House' and unfairly associate us with its wild fraternity behaviour.
Another incident saw a group of "pledges" from Zeta Psi – once home to Henry Ford – surround the entrance to a women's building at midnight, holding a sign stating: "We Love Yale Sluts."

I read this story earlier and am not surprised. A bunch of spoiled male children with a sense of entitlement. They have taken crass and obnoxious behavior to a sick level. Chanting “No means yes, yes means anal” in the womens dorm is new levels of sickness and harassment that show how depraved these kids are. Who the hell would want to play in the outhouse when the funhouse is right next door? Only latent homos.
What did that “once home to Henry Ford” mean. Ford never attended college that I know of.
I am always skeptical of these stories (*cough*Duke Lacrosse Team*cough). If there is “rampant sexual assault” then where is law enforcement? Are any of these crimes being prosecuted? If not, why not?

I remember the Clarance Thomas hearings with the likes of Ted Kennedy sitting in judgment on him.
Someone confronted Kennedy after the hearings and asked, “what gives you the right to judge someone else on this kind of issue? You cannot even define ‘harrassment’” in terms of its meaning, socially, regarding women...”
Kennedy said, “of course I can define it.... HER ASS MENT nothing to me, it was her T*TS I was after..”

Again, we have diluted language to the point that it is meaningless. What are we actually talking about here? Rape or violent sexual assault are crimes and should be prosecuted as such. I thought sexual misconduct is what college kids do.
As far as borish and lesser instances of uncivilized behavior, well, we used to have a whole gammit of lesser disciplinary actions that could be taken to bridge the gap between teenage years and adulthood.
