The Mi per gal tax goes up with the price of gas.

The state charges the full 6% sales tax on the gas and on the state/fed use tax.

I've resuscitated my little one-inch circular stickers that I bought a couple of years ago.....I'm putting 'em on the pump each time I gas up -- and I don't give a sh*t whether a security camera sees me or not.

Parents (those who can) should be teaching their children how to garden and preserve food RIGHT NOW...you don’t have TIME for Disneyworld.

I agree. Gardening and self-sustainment.

Cheapest unleaded here in the CA desert is $4.20 - and diesel is in the $4.95 area at the two local truck stops; truckers gotta be dying.

The transportation industry will start with surcharges again big time.

Prices are gonna skyrocket for everything we buy, all because of the arrogant sob elected by America’s blind, media-led electorate.

If you can’t learn it on Saturday Night Live, then it isn’t real.

I haven’t seen any headlines about salary inflation, have you?

- lol, nope. This is also going to suck when I mow the lawn this year.

I hear the Chevy Volt is just powerful enough to turn lawnmower blades.

California uses a percentage of price instead of a flat per-gallon rate, plus it allows local taxes, IIRC.

Correct.

the profits for the refineries and suppliers has gone well beyond robbery

I think you are missing the point. These massive "profits" are inflated dollars that don't go any further than your dollars go at the grocery store.

The robber here is the US government and the FED. Not the producers.

Well, it never hurts to learn a bit more self-sufficiency, but canning food is a lot of work and requires some investment for the equipment, etc.

More people ARE gardening these days, though.

If prices had done this under George Bush, the MSM would have gone wall-to-wall

There was another thread I read earlier, and someone found a Houston Chronicle article from 2007 that had that as a headline. If I can find it, I'll ping you.

Demand in the US has been rising for a few years, after the fall down from 2007/8.

Only one thing (in my personal opinion) nobody predicted: at US$4.00/US gallon, gasoline starts to become a price elastic (e.g., demand driven by price) product.

Already, the demand for gasoline has begun to drop, and if the price starts to approach the peak we had in 2008, the demand could drop dramatically and that could result in the oil companies "holding the bag" on too much expensive unleaded gasoline. Indeed, Goldman Sachs today said that supplies--in spite of the recent trouble in Libya--have not dropped at all, and this combined with falling demand could result in a pretty steep price plunge very soon.
