Well, my wife (Jenbean) and I had a conversation earlier today concerning a sad situation that happened in GA today. We donated $25.00 and she suggested I post the story on FR to see if more donations can help a sick little boy.

Anyways, Jen mentioned that because we use and love FR so much, and that it affords us the opportunity to serve our fellow citizens for the cause of good, that we should contribute to FR monthly!
We looked into it and found out about the Dollar-A-Day FR club, which we just joined.
In order to add this expense to our budget, we had to tighten our belt and come up with the funds during this recession. What we did in order to come up with $30.00/month is to make the following changes:
1) Call AT&T and remove the in-line plus monthly charge of $6.00/mo.
2) Cancel a magazine subscription that we usually just don't read for a montly charge of $4.00-ish.
3) Downgrade our package on Direct TV on channels we rarely watch....savings....$5.00/mo.
4) Downgrade our NetFlix from physical receipt of blu-rays, to doing the on-line version only through our XBox 360.....savings, $15.00/mo.
5) Called our book club and reduced the number of books from monthly to quarterly...for a savings of $10.00/mo.

Another good thing about becoming a monthly contributor is to get rid of the ridiculously annoying “donate here” thread interruptions ;)

Seriously, you have presented some great ideas about cutting unnecessary spending, and thank you so much for the concept of starting a thread to point this out.
