Spending cuts not expected to dent $1.5 trillion deficit (Boehner blows it)
msnbc ^ | 4/12/2011 | MARTIN CRUTSINGER/ap

Posted on 04/12/2011 7:30:37 PM PDT by tobyhill

The $38 billion in spending cuts agreed to last week won't prevent this year's budget deficit from setting another record high, estimated at $1.5 trillion.

Most of the agreed-to spending cuts either affect future budgets or amount to accounting gimmicks that won't reduce actual spending.

The Treasury Department reported Tuesday that the deficit already totals $829.4 billion through the first six months of the budget year — a figure that until 2009 would have been the biggest ever for an entire year. For March alone, the government ran a deficit of $188 billion.

President Barack Obama and congressional Republicans averted a government shutdown last week by agreeing to the largest-ever spending cuts for a single year. But David Wyss, chief economist at Standard & Poor's in New York, said those cuts amount to a "rounding error" in this year's deficit.

The cuts include unspent money from the 2010 census, which is completed, and $2.5 billion from the most recent repeal of highway programs that can't be spent because of restrictions set by other legislation. They also include $3.5 billion in unused bonuses for states that enroll more children in a health care program for lower-income families.

Totally agree - this behavior by Congress shows the two parties are the same now. Both have their extremes, but the Libs in the GOP are running the show.

Right but the elections are every two years. There was good progress in November. Now in 2012 if we can Oust Obama with a Republican, and Primary out a few RINO Senators it could set up the mid-terms in 2014 for the clean sweep. This is not going to be quick no matter how much I wish it was.
If Obama is outed in the next 2 years it would be better for it to be the death of 1000 cuts culminating next summer. That will help destroy a lot of RINOS along with him, and all the Rats that are not in safe Socialist/Marxist Zones.
I think that is what Rush is thinking. Maybe the GOP will nominate someone between a RINO and a Tea Partier.

Lets see, it takes 1000 billion to make a trillion.

So the mismanaged corrupt government has a 1,500 billion budget problem?

Good luck with that.

Nothing funny about it. Rather, it is sad and pathetic. God please help our country.

And I can’t wait for all the “If you vote for a third party you’re re-electing Obama” crowd. I don’t see any difference in the two parties. See my tagline.

Do the math. 45% Odumbo
30% Rebub
25% Tea Party (or whatever)

Who wins?

It is a two party system for a reason. Show me anywhere in the world that a three party electorate works. You speak tough but have no facts.

No way will more than about 30% republicans switch to a new party. Only a small percentage of libs and independants would make the switch. Not because of any other reason than sticking with what they know. So tell me how the heck a third party is even considered as an option.

The only answer is to take over the republican party and fill it with conservative ideals and values. Not from the outside in but the inside out. If the line is blurry, then we must fix that.

Call me “If you vote for a third party you’re re-electing Obama” if you want, see if I care

Reminds me of the song ALICE’S RESTAURANT. Instead of bringing all that garbage up here it’s easier to throw our little bit of garbage down there.

Either the 25% joins the 30%. Or the 30% joins the 25%. You be stubborn and stay where you are. I’ll be stubborn and stay where I am. And obama will stay where he is. Or you can join us. We tried it your way and joined the GOP and what did it get us? BooHoo Boner as speaker and McConnell all of a sudden against earmarks.

And by the way, if you still believe it’s a “two party” system.....

“Do the math...”

You are quite correct.

My questions for the 3rd partiers are:

-What in God’s name makes you think the new party will be different?

-Is it some magic, patriotic sounding party name?

-Is it a new, heretofore unknown, source of infallible and ever faithful candidates?

Not to mention the simple realities questions:

-Do you realize how much work is involved just to get on all the state ballots?

-What is the strategy to accomplish goals assuming a 3rd party prez and two opposition parties running the Hill?

And the kicker for me is:

If you can’t win a majority of the party which actually has a platform (at least on paper) similar to your views, how on earth are you going to win a majority of the general population, two-thirds of which strongly identify with one of the two existing parties?

It seems to me that if we spent as much time and energy attempting to make the most conservative headway in primary elections, then the goals of the 3rd partiers could be pursued without condemning the nation to more spoiler spawned presidencies.

Remember Ross?

Remember who his siphoned votes helped to become boss?

Twice.

And Ryan’s plan to balance the budget some time in the 2030’s calculates the deficit for this year being 1.355 trillion.

Oops. There goes the plan.

I just referred to the Bureau of the Public Debt .gov website and see that the debt has risen by $659,266,944,990.30 since the first day of fiscal year 2011.

The problem is there is no budget for FY2011 so there can be no budget deficit.

Nevertheless, if our little pubbies did cut spending by $38Billion or so...and I'm not so sure about that...the debt will continue to grow until the only folks who can really create a debt ceiling...that would be the lenders...quit lending.

“We tried it your way and joined the GOP and what did it get us?”

Only a fool would look at the steps America has taken to correct the insane course of the liberals and not THANK GOD that millions of people have opened there eyes and minds to the truth.

How soon you forget the results of last November. Lose the theatrics. All the doom and gloom you purport-rate only makes the rest of us more determined to clean house in the GOP and win on the very principles the GOP was founded on.

And one last thing. If you were Odumbo, how much would you have conceded? Not a cent, I bet. Yet Boener got $38.5b. Not bad huh.

Rush thinks the fastest route to stamping out the Liberals is taking over the Republican Party. If it works it will take about 4 more years. Rush also thinks it does not matter who is the next President in 2012 as long as there is an R next to his name. Maybe Trump is part of Operation Chaos.

The OP(formerly the GOP) came into power in the mid 1850's. The RATs before that time. The powers of Congress have only expanded far beyond their enumerated powers in Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution for nearly 160 years. They have been working together by playing the good cop, bad cop scam with the American people during that time.

If you try to take over one, then you have to take over both. It smacks of logic to think anyone will be able to take over the Socialist Republicrat machine in four years after nearly 160 years of Unconstitutional government expansion. We can't wait four more years! Limbaugh is not the end all and be all of politics. I stopped listening to him long ago.

Where have you been? The truth is Boehner got $2 billion. If you think that’s a correction to what the liberals have been doing, then keep doing what you’re doing.

As for me, I don’t see it as what “the liberals” have been doing. I see it what the DC politicians have been doing. They’ve been cashing in and that includes both parties.

So, if you’re happy with being told $100 billion, then $61 billion then being lied to with $38.5 billion then ending up with about $2 billion, I’m happy for you.

But I’m a little sick and tired of being told “come join us”. My battle cry from now on out will be YOU COME JOIN OUR SIDE or we’ll all go down together. ‘Cause as long as the republicans and the democrats run things, they’ll ruin things. It started in 2000.

I get so tired of “Ross Perot gave us Clinton”. Polls showed he took votes away from Clinton and Bush equally. As for me, Perot increased voter turnout by one because I wasn’t going to vote for Clinton and I sure as hell wasn’t going to vote for “Read My Lips” Bush. But of course, I know liberals, and apparently many conservatives, hear what they want to hear.

For those who think the last election accomplished something, look who the “leaders” are. The same ones who were there BEFORE the election. The same ones who still hate Sarah Palin and will try their damndest to get someone like Romney or Huckabee nominated. It’ll take a full blown republican revolution to get the GOP to support anyone but a rino. Rush needs to remember how he’s always ranted about the “big tent”. I guess now he’s willing to move in. That “big tent” will only exist when a bunch of liberals join. Then you’re right back where you started.

So, ya’ll vote the way you want. That’s what this republic is all about. The only one who will EVER get my vote is a true conservative. I’ve only got a few votes left so I’m not going to waste them. And before anyone says “Vote for a third party and you’ll waste your vote”, I’ll remind you I voted for McCain and that really feels like it was a waste! In fact, it’s the only vote I’ve ever regretted.
