Conservative intelligentsia is in a tizzy over birthers running wild and stealing the show. Relax guys. Leave the birthers alone, and quit playing the liberal game of trashing conservatives who aren’t on the genteel reservation. Malkin, Horowitz, Coulter and their favorite politicians should take a deep breath and relax. All the other issues are still going to get discussed and beaten into the ground. We will be inundated by the whole spectrum of political debate before 2012 rolls around. Quit insulting your fellow travelers who aren’t above the eligibility issue. They will probably turn out to be right.

It’s the Constitution, stupid.

Pundits have tried to peg the Tea Party as being about spending and nothing more. Wrong! At it’s core, the Tea Party movement is about getting back to the Constitution.

It’s about respecting (and following) the principles the country was founded upon. The ones that have been encapsulated in our Constitution.

And yes, that includes “silly little clauses” like the one stating the president must be a natural born citizen.

We can argue about the meaning of NBC, but we can’t ignore it. Ignoring it means you can ignore any part of the Constitution you disagree with.

Arizona is on the brink of passing an eligibility bill and Oklamhoma not far behind.

No one has yet passed the bill.

Sad, but there it is. We the People can not force our States to adhere to the law. They do as they please, and apparently it pleases them to allow the charade of Obama's reign continue unimpeded.

I sure hope Mittens gets vetted properly. His grandfather and father were born in Mexico. It doesn’t seem to be clear if his father was naturalized or not.

Michelle could do a great deal of good for the Philippines and if she got sent there it wouldn't hurt this country at all.

I don't think that's necessary. Just get some surgery to round out her eyes, and bleach her skin a bit, and there you go... American!!

Well said. I agree. It is most curious that so many want to ignore the natural born citizen debate... very similar techniques that are used to shut up any opposition to global warming are used in this debate...or should I say “non-debate”

We don’t need no stinkin’ Constitution!

Yeah. Jim McDermott (D) WA is "tired" of reading it. All the time it takes to read it could be put to better use. Like figuring out new ways to squander our money...(sarc/off)

I thought it was Phil Berg who started it all? Either way, both seem to be Dems. and Hillary Clinton supporters.

You do realize this is an old article.

The “posted” date is supposed to be the date the article was published on the internet, in this case in 2008.

That said, this was an excellent article and a needed recap of where this issue has been and where it’s going.

Thanks.

If the words ‘natural born citizen’ in the Constitution are meaningless to David Horowitz, Michelle Malkin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Ann Coulter, etc….. and could mean anything then you some of us have better start wondering what other clauses of words of the Constitution are really not that important as well to these so-called conservatives.

Possibly ‘We the People’ could actually include cats, dogs, trees, and even the kitchen sink. Perhaps when the word ‘States’ is used it could also include foreign states as well. Perhaps the word ‘religion’ could actually mean anything at all that someone believes.

Anyone who claims that the words of the Constitution are not important and that an issue dealing with the meaning of the Constitution is not important is not important themselves and is certainly not truly a conservative.

I remain stunned...that the people in this country do not care whether the constitution has been followed in the election of the President of the US. How can a real American NOT want to pursue this?????

We don’t need no stinkin’ Constitution!

It sure is beginning to look that way. Several people I once had great respect for are on my sh!& list now. I will not be buying their books, watching them on TV, listening to them on radio or hitting their websites. I have absolutely no use for these obama supporters. Here we have the perfect chance to remove him based on our constitution and no one has the stomach for it. I'm at a point where if obama gets elected in 2012, I'm picking up what's left of my assets and heading the hell out of here.

And plenty of other good people will be leaving as well. I'm seriously looking at some South Pacific island nations as destinations. Small countries without a lot of government intrusion.

The Conservatives and Republicans better wake up and learn to fight (quickly) or they'll be as relevant as the dodo bird.

"What difference does it make to the future of this country whether Obama was born on U.S. soil?"

A lot of difference, considering it impacts his Constitutional qualifications for the presidency.

Correct. Leo hasn't had a case before SCOTUS since then (2008).

This country needs to get back to understanding that we are governed by the constitution, period. If we don't do something about this birth issue it will just be kicked down the road again and again, just like drilling for oil here on our soil. It is time the people decide WHO is going to determine whether a person is quailified to be president according to our constitution.
