I’m not really sure why his notional religion is relevant here.
There are nasty people of every stripe. This guy happened to be brought up mormon. I don’t think this British tabloid has any place making the religion central.

I can’t imagine that creep of a man didn’t give off some kind of bad vibe. Wives usually get a feeling if their husband is up to no good, at least italian and french women do, and when they find out there’s alway hell to pay.
I know a woman whose husband is a real creep. He puts up a good front but he makes my skin crawl every time he’s around. He left her for another woman. Turns out, there was a bunch of stuff about him that she was hiding - like he’s not allowed to be around children (???).
One day, he showed back up as if nothing happened. The dumb ass (excuse my French) took him back and wants everyone who helped her through her devastation to “forgive” him and act like nothing happened.
What happens to her from here - I have no sympathy for her at all. She knows full well who and what he is.

From the Mormon church-owned Deseret News: Martin worked part time at the BYU Health Center while earning a law degree. He graduated from BYU's law school in 1990 and worked as a physician at the Health Center for some time before taking a position as director of Medical Law Comp in Washington and then returning to Utah...in 1994, about the same time he was accused of having sexual relations with one of his patients at the BYU Health Center...His work at BYU was punctuated by accusations of rape, complaints of unprofessional conduct and misdiagnosis. He was terminated in 1999 for undisclosed reasons.

It is because of the outward facade that many people buy into that mormons are just so pure and clean-living....and the mormon church is spending millions to foster this illusion. There is a huge ongoing scandal in Arizona regarding knowledge by the mormon leaders of this sex abuse and not reporting it.

Every scandal involving other religons is fair game. Why should mormonism be exempt?
I believe it’s probably making a reference to the whole ‘picture perfect’ image every Mormon family attempts to portray, but in reality, they are not; many are just hiding the problems and the whole ‘picture perfect’ thing is a facade.
The reason is is Mormons tout family time and the family as the most important unit and that they have far better families than anyone else because of the emphasis the Mormon church places on family. Fact is they probably aren’t any better than any other families, which means the claims that Mormonism helps you have a better family, are probably not as true as they’d want you to believe.
I mean look at the Osmonds too, lots of crap came out about them. Lots of former Mormons talk about their dysfunctional families underneath all the smiling photos of the family.

If the guy was a priest or whatever then sure, but is every crime in Utah a mormon scandal?
(Sorry that your hermetically sealed compartmentalized boundary was broken...you'll have to do better surveying exactly where religion begins and ends...and then ensuring that it's socially "legislated" out there so that we can properly succumb to it in our marvelous Free Republic)
Let me just go on record to say that many Utah scandals are indeed Mormon scandals also. Mormons are just as sick, twisted and devious as anyone else - but it is THEY who claim to be better.
How often have you heard on FR that mormons are such good neighbors - just good and honorable folks. Well, the pendulum swings both ways. If THEY claim to be better, then we should see it in action and since I live in Utah and was a Mormon for over 40 years, I can tell you that Mormons are just people.
(Well, if your moniker has anything to do with your personality -- Engineer -- well, of course, you'd favor "factual" stuff and disfavor fluffy feelings from daughters being quoted about how wonderful their Mormon childhood was...but why would that bother you? ... other than the feelings' angle, that is...the women actually spoke positively of their Mormon childhood)

I know a woman like that. What gets me is that woman that I know didn't take crap from her first husband and was married many years to him. After he died, a few years later, she meets a real loser. When he's not around she says she hates the bastard then a few days later, acts as if nothing happen. I've seen bruises on her and she says she had an accident or had a bad fall. I know its BS.
When I see her next, I'm going to have a little private chat with her boyfriend and say to him if I ever see another bruise on this woman, I'm calling the police.

Is a suspicious death where women suspect their father murdered their mother -- is that comparable to falling under a broad "every crime" umbrella? (No)
Therefore, sorry. You're a bit culpable of reducing a potential murder to the status of "every [humdrum] crime."
But, as to why I said it's a great Q re: the scandalous aspect...the extended answer is, "It depends."
Are we talking about Mormons, or non-Mormons?
If we're talking about non-Mormons, then, hey we're all sinners. We're all guilty in Adam -- and have original sin. We're all at least spiritual 'criminals' in the eyes of God. And many of us are social criminals beyond that. All in all, some of us are more guilty than others; but we've all fallen short of the glory of God. Still, so that I don't reduce the magnitude of these things myself, somehow the overwhelming majority of us don't literally kill somebody or abuse them in a criminal way -- even as people are guilty of hating a brother or lusting...which Jesus found to be equally guilty in God's eyes as if committing the very act!
But Mormons -- from a pure Mormon perspective -- don't believe in original sin. They believe Mormon children are 100% innocent for the first 7 years & 364+ days of their lives. Furthermore, MANY Lds leaders reference Mormons as "gods-in-embryo."
So, if a sinner falls. Is that a surprise? (No)
If a sinner is suspected of murder, might that be worthy of a 19-page article? Oh sure; but it's just not as contrast-laden (keep reading).
But if a "god-in-embryo" entity who was...
...born perfect
...and has no original sin
-- if he does these things
-- is that more of a "banner headline" from a Mormon theological anthropology? (Yup)
Why? (Because the contrast of who they are said to be and who they are is greater...just like when Jesus pointed out the contrast of recommending that people be outwardly righteous like the Pharisees -- but not be like the inward graveywards they were!)
