BARKHAMSTED,Conn. -- A hybrid electric Chevrolet Volt believed to have sparked an overnight blaze in a garage in Barkhamsted last week, reignited again on Monday.
The state fire marshal's office is investigating how the electric car parked at a Center Hill Road home caught fire Monday morning.
Last week, homeowners Storm Connors and his wife, Dee, woke up to the sound of a smoke alarm around 4 a.m.
The couple's garage, where they parked their new Chevrolet Volt hybrid, was on fire. Firefighters were able to put out the blaze. A firewall built between the home and the garage saved their home.
Investigators with the state fire marshal's office and the couple's insurance company, at the time, suspected the hybrid car have had something to do with the blaze.
On Monday morning, firefighters were called back to the home when the car caught fire again.

ok... yes... it's bad. that's ok, i'll take it as a guilty pleasure. :)
marshmallows anyone?
The car was the source of the fire, not the electrical wiring in the garage. I’m sure the second time the car was not plugged in to anything because I recall that the garage was essentially destroyed in the first fire.
*smiles*...volt from the dolt who needs a colt
pinto is to Carter...
as Volt is to ___
(ROFLMAO there’s a meme that’ll spread)
Buy back instead of recall.
“I thought you needed to have 240v in your garage, which most people have to put in special as I dont think it is standard circuitry in most garages.”
With standard 120 v the car will charge but very slow. In the metro Detroit area (Motor City) they were taking applications for free 240 v charging stations to be installed. I guess Obama took over the utility company also.

Yep...oil derricks are not as pretty as these BS pinwheels....
LOL - although, I’d take a $2000 Pinto over one of these government motors firetraps any day. At least you had to provoke the Pinto to get it to burn!
!Well Obama told me to get a fuel efficient car. I couldnt afford one on unemployment till now. Im going to pick up a Volt at a fire sale!
charging batteries=fire hazard, especially in an enclosed area
The 70’s are back! Wonder if those flammable Nehru jackets are next?
True confession - I actually owned a Pinto wagon. Drove it for 5 years, then sold it to a friend. He put it over 100K, which was an achievement back then. 2.3L “Kent” engine, 4 speed stick, 3.08 axle ratio. Used to drive it like I stole it! Lots of fun in a cheap package.
1.) The S & P is saying the US ( and all it's spending and investments, i.e. GM are a bad credit risk.
2.) On Detroit TV this A.M. the Gov't is kabitzing about selling all it's GM shares now that it is had gone below its IPO price, and they are potentially thinking about that in a downward market.
3.) If this is car centric and not the charing station/home wiring and their are more of them, no pun intended the Volt is toast...
Best name o da day! Theme song for the Chevy Zippo, Baby light my Fireyah!
I can top that...my Dad swore by Chevrolet, so I got saddled with a Vega. :-(
Vega + 5 Billion Bailout = Volt
I too had a Vega. I will never trust a GM product that Starts with the letter V and has four letters.
1. How do you double the value of a Volt?.....put a battery pack in back
2, How do you get out of foreclosure?...put a Volt in the garage and collect the insurance money
3. How do you stop a Volt from being stolen?...take the battery pack with you
4. Why has Volt got heated rear windows?...keeps the hands warm when pushing home through snow.
5. Why not turn radio on while moving?...speed drops to half.
