McCain applauds veto of 'birther' bill

Arizona Sen. John McCain (R) applauded his state's governor, Jan Brewer (R), Monday for vetoing a controversial "birther" bill.

The legislation, the first of its kind in the nation, would have required presidential candidates to prove their citizenship to be included on the state's ballot.

McCain, President Obama's GOP opponent in 2008, tweeted:

Proud of @GovBrewer for her veto of the "birther bill" - it was the right decision.

The bill stemmed from suspicions of some of Obama's opponents that he is not a natural-born citizen of the United States and is thus ineligible to be commander in chief.

McCain's 2008 campaign investigated "birther" claims against Obama, but found them to be baseless. In 2010, the senator ran a campaign ad during his Senate reelection bid against his Republican primary opponent, former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, tying him to top figures in the "birther" movement. In a letter explaining her veto, Brewer said the proposal, "creates significant new problems while failing to do anything constructive for Arizona," according to the Arizona Republic.

I have no clue. And if Obama really has nothing to hide, then what’s all the fuss about with this bill?

McCain leaves liberal RINO scat all over America. He is our Benedict Arnold, but we have no George Washington to indict him for his treason.

“Juan McLame once again reminding all of us on what a lousy nominee he was.”

I think he’s ticked that Trump and others are finally revealing to the public who Barack Obama really is, while his I’ll-let-Obama-punch-me-in-the-face-repeatedly-and-never-once-strike-back ways are being relegated to the dustbin.

Don't be fooled, Brewer and McCain are the best of buddies and I would bet McCain had a little hand in her veto decision.

They campaigned together and both jumped on the Border issue stealing the issue from their more Conservative opponents. They knew the Border issue was a winning game maker.

I'd bet that Jan would give her eye teeth to be rid of that issue as easily as McCain let it go pretty much by the wayside since his re-election. The difference is that Brewer couldn't slough it off. Brewer is a clone, politically speaking, of McCain.

Such a gentleman that John McCain. So willing to just get along. Isn’t it great to to be John McCain? Mr. Nice Guy.

I’ll take Trump or Palin or Bachmann or anybody with a real pair. This guy would have been a disaster of a President.

Yep. I mean, is it such a dastardly thing to root for the good guys just once?
