To have a discussion about large issues, generalizations are required.

Are we having a discussion? I thought we were fixing blame.

“A lesson to be learned here is nobody owes you anything.”

What conservativism is all about, thank you for posting.

“The problem is that like the monkey with his hand on the nut in the monkey trap, they would rather our whole country go under, than give up the ponzi scheme.”

That is most certainly the case. But it is not just the few silly souls who believed all the garbage, it is those at the top, who benefit and enrich themselves at our expense that don’t want to let go of that nut.

There power depends on holding onto that nut. They aren’t going to let go. It is like the public servant unions, it is about power to them. Letting go for the good of others is just not going to happen.

And therein lies the problem. A whole power structure built on fiat has been built up, and it is going to kill our country and way of life. And they don’t want to let go.

If it had anything to do with math I’m sure my Dad tried to teach me, but.... well, I have to plead the fifth on that. :)

I’m sixty and I did a little run-through this morning on the Fidelity website, assuming a bad market in the future and using conservative estimates, at the time when the probability that my wife and will both have passed away reaches 75%, the value of our estate, not counting our home, will be $1.4 million. Even 35 years from now, that should be worth something.

Not all boomers embraced it and all generations have had their similarly proportionate fill of those who were socialists.

No generation is exempt from blame, no generation is the cause of it all. Socialism gained incrementally every year, it's a parasite philosophy that sucks the lifeblood across generations.

Unfortunately the same kind of things being said here about one generation and another is the same stuff the left says about the rich and the poor. Conservatives should speak about issues and individuals, not groups. My WW2 Marine Fighter Pilot father in law would probably punch some of these guys in the nose if he were still alive.

I think these sorts of generalizations are divisive to the people who belong to those groups simply by virtue of when they were born. We need ALL of us to get the job done. :)

They brought a lot of darkness back with them. People don’t realize how much World War II damaged the U.S.

As with the bumper sticker seen on so many RVs in the west, "We’re spending our kids’ inheritance."

We're headed for the big default, and mechanically inclined, young redneck men will decide what to do with you. Don't believe it now, just remember that you were warned.

“A whole power structure built on fiat has been built up, and it is going to kill our country and way of life. And they don’t want to let go.”

“The love of money is the root of all evil.” That’s as multi-generational and timeless as they come.

I hate socialism in all it many ugly forms, the problem we have is that a lot of “conservatives” are only conservative (or Constitutional, if it’s easier to think in that way). until it gets to their pet program, philosophy, etc. What we need is freedom, not state promised “Security.” Because you never, ever, ever get it, and some have to learn the hard way. And that is what too many don’t understand, the problem nipped in the bud is always easier, then waiting until we’re old. Like an acorn, it’s easier to uproot when we’re young and the tree a sapling, then when we’re old and the tree’s a giant oak, and say, going to fall on your house. Sure the acorns may be free, but you’ve sacrificed true security for a false one. I know you understand, but so many don’t.

Blaming only the people takes the system and the power structure of this country out of the equation.

But how long has the average American been dumbed down?
How many people don’t care about history and how the average joe today can’t even see what is coming at us?

The “we the people” who gave them that power have died long ago. NONE are alive today. In fact, if you wish to place the foundation of this in the 1800s, then they have been dead for almost 200 years. Those were the people who gave them this power.

I didn’t vote for SS, or Medicare, or even DeathCare, or for abortions. None of us did.

I keep thinking about the emperor Justinian, who codified Roman law because it had become a huge mess. This country needs a new Justinian - someone needs to clear out the garbage of years of regulation that is strangling this country. But to many people make their living do just that.

;)

If we get to where the “blame” gets put where it belongs, isn’t that a discussion?

One thing you have to keep in mind is that it is only VERY recently that there has been an ability by the general public to have much access to a great deal of information. THAT makes a tremendous difference in how much we now know about what is going on.

Agreed and Agreed. If this were a Federal Schooling Socialism Program (Pell Grant), or a Soup Line (SNAP/Food Stamp) thread, I’d be talking about it just the same. The problem I have with the Baby Boomers is that they are so numerous, and had some much freedom (comparatively), that the next three generations have an uphill climb, while they used their prime years for a downward skid. Like I said, 40 years late is better than never.

Socialism has been around since the War in Heaven, oh it’s name has changed, but the philosophy hasn’t: taking what isn’t yours. That having been said, some generations have been better or worse at holding the line, going uphill or downhill. The last 100 years has been a downward slide, but the last 40 have been monumental. People under 50 have never been able to perceive the non socialist state. They’re not even taught about it in schools. Many of the younger have never even known someone who before the socialism balance swayed. That is NOT true of the HUGE baby boomer generation. Hence, no pass.
