INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- Hundreds of marijuana plants were seized by police officers on 4/20, a day celebrated in the drug culture to use marijuana. But when Independence, Mo., police showed up at one man's door looking for marijuana, they found something else.
Independence police found a growing operation Wednesday afternoon: a tomato growing operation.
"What I saw today was not protection," the man told KMBC's Cliff Judy.
"That was harassment, all because of where I made a purchase."
Independence police said the Missouri Highway Patrol monitors stores that sell hydroponic growing equipment, and they use those sales to track down illegal marijuana growing operations. That information is what led them to the man's door.
"The last time I checked, it wasn't illegal to grow a tomato plant, but it makes you wonder," the man said.

We just smiled and waved/sittin’ on that sack of seeds.
Buying legal items and growing legal plants will now get you a visit from the police...
Welcome to Germany circa 1935...
The Drug War has come to this. Innocent farmers are harrassed while illegal aliens swarm the country. Disgraceful.
;-)
A lot of conservatives who love to prattle on about freedom have no problem with this sort of thing. Gotta fight that demon weed.
These days using “too much” electricity will get you a visit from the police. Seems if you use that much, you must be running a growing operation. Nah, you can’t be charging your electric car, or be running a home business server farm out of your house.
A better way to put it would have been to say, "A lot of conservatives who love to prattle on about freedom have no clue..."
Or have two teenage daughters...
Are teenage daughters power-hungry ?
But I wasn't growing tobacco so I didn't say anything.
Then they came for the unauthorized pot growers.

Then they came for the tomato growers...
...and there wasn't anybody left to speak for us.
So, what’s the big deal. They visited his home, politely asked to see the growing equipment, and then left. Why is that harrassment?
If there had been any real harrassment, I presume that this guy would have described it.
Any judge that gave a search warrant based on this should be disbarred and sent to a Siberia concentration camp.
Same with murder, and every innocent person questioned during ANY investigation whatsoever has been a victim of the jackbooted police state. From now on everyone even looked at by the cops must be guilty or else.
“Sure he was driving the stolen car with a bdy in the trunk, but since we don’t know for certain he killed him we can only charge him with recieving stolen property”
What a flipping waste of taxpayer’s money to track down pot growers and to track down people they think maybe might have probably could have bought equipment that possibly they think might be but no evidence off growing pot.
maybe need to get my hydroponic supplies for indoor gardening at Homey D instead, huh? WI has such a short natural growing season...
Really? They had zero reason to go to the guys house and question him about anything.

The Mexican drug lords own a good number of our politicians. If you doubt it, then explain why they won't build a fence that would guarantee them reelection.
“Hundreds of marijuana plants were seized by police officers “
You might not like it, but they are finding the stuff.
