A former Cayuga County resident serving an 18-to-40-year state prison sentence for rape and sodomy is on a heart donor list and is undergoing a heart transplant evaluation at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Coxsackie Correctional Facility inmate Kenneth L. Pike was flown from Albany to Rochester Monday, and hospital officials confirmed that a Kenneth Pike is at the hospital and is listed in guarded condition.
Pike is being evaluated for a heart transplant, is on the donor list and will most likely die without the procedure.
the average first-year cost of a heart transplant comes in at $787,700.
In Pike’s case, the state would pick up the bill because he is in state custody.
Pike was convicted at trial in Cayuga County Court in 1996 of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and third-degree rape, all felonies, for raping and sodomizing a 12-year-old child.

Actually, his three hots and a cot gets paid by...you guessed it..the TAXPAYER. And cable TV, medical care, psychiatric care, etc.

NY could quietly give him a compassionate furlough and non-stop plane ticket to some other uber-liberal state (ummm like Hawaii) for medical ‘testing’, and have prison guards stay with him until he is ON that plane.
THen require that he return in 30 days or else have his sentence doubled. That would guarantee he never returns

Ummm, because a convicted child rapist is approximately the last person I feel compassion for?
I'd give him the choice of a) live out a shortened life in prison, or b) be executed now to save everyone the hassle.

We don’t have enough spare hearts to withhold what’s needed to trash a donor’s organ. The best we can do is pray that the recipients, particularly those who seem less worthy to our human eyes, will experience a total change of heart in every sense of the word.

I think if you asked around, more people would probably prefer he be castrated or that the child rapist is hanged

I think they should remove his heart for a close exam to make sure he REALLY needs a transplant.

For what it’s worth,I took his compassionate parole idea to mean if the rapist were paroled no more free heart.
Yep, I could see that but only as long as his parole is controlled (not just monitored) in such a way that he can do no harm. Child rapists and similar vermin have a very high rate of recidivism.
Then sure, let him figure out how to earn or otherwise legally acquire the $800K for himself, the exercise in walking the straight and narrow might do him good.
I still don't feel any compassion toward the guy; this is about saving a couple hundred grand in tax revenue for some more worthy use.
