The immigration debate could very well serve as a prime example of national media and information distortion. An often-used phrase is, Where you sit is where you stand. In simplistic terms this refers to how you view any debate. The position you enter the argument from is usually the determinant of what information you will accept and where you will take your final stand. This Information Age we now are in the process of experiencing is a wondrous time to be alive. The average individual has at his or her fingertips, or within sight and sound, the ability to find out almost anything. At the same time the newspapers; television, radio, internet, emails, blogs, magazines and books that keep us current with world activities and happenings can also serve to distort reality. They can often present scenarios, which though seemingly legitimate are complete fabrications or extremely slanted versions of fact. It is a personal responsibility to sift through all the distortion and obtain solid information.
On the subject of immigration, those of Hispanic or Latino origin are perhaps more sympathetic to the plight of illegal aliens or immigrants from Mexico than are native born blue collar workers who feel threatened by new or undocumented arrivals they believe are taking their jobs.
Those who take advantage of the immigrant population and hire from an undocumented immigrant work force at reduced wages do not necessarily want to see any major shift in immigration policy.
Republicans business supporters who are not seeking the employment of a low wage work force but view the undocumented Hispanic or Latino as a future Democrat voter almost always demand deportation. They want a policy that places strong emphasis on restricted entry to the county and great difficulty in obtaining citizenship.
The Democrat politician sees the immigrant population as a major reason to expand favored social programs and dependency upon liberal politics for sustenance and security. They advocate a rapid path to citizenship with the view this act will move more people into the Democrat ranks.
Those who are really not into specific party politics, but are concerned about national security are really the largest single faction of this country with concerns about our immigration policy. This body of citizenry views the unsecured borders as a major threat to the safety and the future of the country. At a time in our lives when the country is knowingly experiencing the threats of Islamic terrorists, engaged in three wars and watching as drug cartels are conducting their battles on both sides of our southern border, to this specific group of Americans a continuing flow of illegal aliens into the country is unacceptable.
At this particular hour in our history most Americans are looking at the unprecedented national debt that has been created by the mismanagement of the treasury by the political class. For decades politicians of all persuasions have bought their way to reelection by spending programs that have driven the country to the brink of bankruptcy. The primary thought of the responsible American adult is to stop the spending and pay down the debt. Reducing debt involves far more than just providing for less spending in the national budget. It also means developing a meaningful and logical approach to immigration. Right now our policy seems to be no policy at all. Since September 2001 we have drastically reduced legal immigration, while at the same time leaving our borders so porous that the illegal immigrant population has exploded.
To lower our deficit we need a growing economy. Highly educated immigrants can be major contributors to the goal of increasing the workforce and expanding the countrys economic growth. They did just that in our recent past. In the decade between 1995 and 2005 foreign-born Americans established 25% of the technology and engineering start-up companies. These start-ups added 450,000 jobs to our workforce. Even today legal immigrants working in U.S. companies hold 65% of the PhDs in computer science. However, since the 9-11 terror attack we have cut the allowed legal immigration of high skilled foreign nationals from 115,000 a year to 65,000 thus depriving ourselves of an additional 50,000 scientists and technicians each year. At the same time, the foreign student who graduates with a science or technology degree cannot remain here and work, as was the norm in past decades. It now takes that student up to ten years to receive a Green Card so he or she can be employed.
On the reverse end of the scale we have done next to nothing about stopping the flow of poor and unskilled illegal immigration. Each year state and federal assistance runs as high as $22 billion to provide for the care of this population group. In Texas alone it is estimated that almost 70% of illegal immigrants are receiving one or more welfare services. Though denied welfare aid by law, both legal and illegal immigrants still manage to receive benefits. Most of the restrictions have been eliminated by order of the Executive Branch. The law still reads that immigrants receiving welfare can be deported, but that law is rarely enforced. Since 1980 on 12 people have been deported because they had become a public charge.
So, has our almost unsolvable national debt changed the tipping point by which we will remedy our total immigration mismanagement? You, the voter, will be the judge. We have decades of information available that prove the political class cant handle the job without strong guidance. They will only address the problem from where they are sitting.
No. Not Ever.
Adding people to welfare and other government sponsored dependency programs would not simply be suicide for him but the entire party would be relegated to about the same percentage as Libertarians.
Based on what I see in the malls, the spanish speaking people outnumber the English speaking people already.
Even the media propaganda machine couldn't keep joe sixpack from rising against this. They better not try this......

This country of ours is soooo in need of a massive SPRING CLEANING. A LOT of trash needs to go to the curb.
The problem is, dims are like the hoarders you see in that TV reality show; they will fight tooth and nail to keep the trash in the house. It is to their benefit to keep the illegals in this country, because the day they become legal they will be voting democratic. The could care less about the utter PESTILENCE they have wrought on our country, votes are votes.
They are already there, we kid ourselves if we do not think they have the system down pat
The gov will never truly enforce the immigration laws of this nation, not with a socialist and his enablers in power.
It will be Joe Six Pack packing the illegals on the bus, with an armed escort to border with a pamphlet handed to each, written in English and Spanish. “Don’t return unless we specifically invite you, which won’t be any time soon.”
Just one lottery winner naturalized citizen will spawn multiple sponsored relative incursions. Most of the elder relatives find work just long enough to get the minimum number of quarters for SS. I've watched one ext ended family gain citizenship here over the years; three of them are already on SS and recently a distant cousin arrived on a visitor's visa, he's already working in the store and will NEVER go home - it started with just one lottery winner.
It is America's biggest failing in my opinion. We are feeding the world, only it's not just wheat.
I understand that. Making them legal and removing any chance of removing them from the system would be political suicide.
They all want handouts. The (D)s would flourish even when it implodes because their mentality says we need a handout of some sorts & that is what they will get.
Ike rounded up and deported about 11 million after WWII so it can be done and its not even that hard. We need to do the same thing and shut our ears to the shrill screams that will come from the Left as we do it.
And in the malls, you see a lot of the “baby mama” culture on display too. It isn’t surprising that many of the baby mamas are on public assistance.
Back in Eisenhower’s day, the media culture, Hollywood idiots, etc. didn’t raise protests about his actions. Today, they would raise He** about it.
And remember too, the liberals have adopted illegal immigration as a cause celebre. We are supposed to be liberal, we are a nation of immigrants, yadda, yadda, yadda. Bumper sticker slogans, magnified by the MSM, liberals, and Hollywood idiots, unfortunately have the effect of framing debates on issues in this country.
Ping!
The question that people don't like to think about is: can we remove a few states from the failing legacy-USA and retain some aspects of our culture.
If we can't then we will all go down with the good-ship USSA pretty soon. We will be Mexico North.
If we do have a secession movement there will be many, many hard questions to ask about who will be allowed to stay and who must go.
We're not at the point that most people are even willing to think about these sorts of questions, much less talk about them. But as the failure of the Federal Reserve Stats of America takes shape, as the urban failures grow, as the riots deepen, as the Mexican drug cartels extend into Texas, Arizona and California people will start to think and talk about it.
Oh, BS. There are that many Americans with those degrees out of work, can't find anything. Rob Sanchez and Norm Matloff document all of this.
The Indians get a foothold in a company and then that's it - they only hire their own. Only ethnicity that doesn't get to do that is the American ethnicity.
Oh, sorry, I forgot...we don't exist.
Maybe we need a bumper sticker that says “Now we are a nation of illegal immigrants”.
