Youth stabbed in fight at National Zoo [African American Family Day tradition]
Washington Post ^ | April 25, 2011 | Paul Duggan and Martin Weil with Pat Sullivan and Clarence Williams

A teenager was stabbed and seriously wounded in a fight Monday at the National Zoo as the zoo marked African American Family Day. A 16-year-old was arrested and charged in the incident, D.C. police said.

D.C. police Cmdr. Michael E. Reese said the stabbing was connected to “some kind of ruckus” that apparently broke out within the zoo and might have resumed at or near the entrance on Connecticut Avenue NW.

.....The teenager was stabbed at least twice, at least once in the zoo and once at or just outside the entrance, Reese said. Some of the same assailants might have been involved in both attacks, he said.

.....In addition to the many children attending the zoo’s annual day-after-Easter celebration, tourists and youngsters on spring break filled the zoo to capacity, Legge said.

The free gathering dates to the 1890s. Oral history says that black domestic workers were required to work on Easter, so Monday was the day of family celebration.

In 2000, the Easter Monday celebration was marred when a teenager, in a dispute with teens from another neighborhood, shot and wounded seven people at the zoo’s main entrance. A year later, the shooter was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Such a lovely culture they have.

Assimilation into American culture (and language) is what makes this country work.

By degrading American culture, the socialists win.

We need to laugh in the face of the Left when they celebrate "otherness" and divide groups and elevate diversity above the melting pot.

excellent

and yet, the rich privileged pampered obamas feel just as angry and victimized as the gangbangers, they are drawn to the angry black rhetoric (even in houses of “worship”) like moths to a destructive flame. They feed off the anger.

obama is nothing more than a well-dressed whiteman articulate gangbanger with a couple of faux Ivy league degrees, his own valet and a private jet. and michelle is an angry gangbanger with another couple faux Ivy league degrees, million dollar designer wardrobe and personal staff of 122 maids.

No way you’ll see their tender privileged butts at the national zoo or anywhere else on the mean streets of DC they helped to create and perpetuate.

Thank you for the post.

You said it like it is and it needs to be addressed.

So many have been conditioned to avoid talking about it, except in terms of derision. We been totally polarized on this — but that has been by purpose.

If we talked about these problems as Americans and worked together on ways to correct them, the race-baiting elites would lose a lot of control over the poor and the status they hold by oppressing them.

As it is now, people are suspicious and uncomfortable and unsure about what kind of reception they’d even get if they reached out.

And I’m sure there are agitators in both camps who want to make sure this divide never changes.

I'd love to have a "truth-o-meter" go off every time a politician says they're doing it for (fill in the blank).

An instructive microcosm of what living off government produces (including the socialists that live in Bethesda, Montgomery County and so on).

Do you mean before or after they're overrun by socialists?

Entrance fees keep the riff-raff out.

Horse tracks understand this. It is why they have a cheap entrance fee. They want you in, and betting, but they also understand the need to keep the riff-raff out.

Let me see.....a black dominated country that isn’t a basket case?

I guess you have me at a sticking point because I can’t separate out the “basket case” part from “the strong man socialist part” and blame it on the “black” part.

There are several countries in our hemisphere that have high levels of black literacy. It all boils down to literacy and non socialist oppression.

True, but they mask their attendance revenue stream by charging for parking.

Smithsonian Air & Space Dulles does exactly the same thing: $15 per car.

The whole area entailing Washington DC and Prince George’s County Maryland ,IS the National Zoo.

The area where the zoo is located is a very high-rent neighborhood in the NW section of the city. I work a block away and can tell you for a fact that property prices in that neighborhood for something decent are well over $1 million.

That said, after getting caught up in the fracas as I was driving home from work yesterday and seeing the violent beat down take place just two cars in front of me, I would NEVER, EVER choose to live in DC. I drive 30 miles in to go to work and I drive home again. That's it.

Ah, mea culpa, but it is understandable that I thought so given the line in the article.

Clearly they need to charge admission.

Be safe out there. And yes, putting up with the brain damage of the commute looks prudent to me.
